The 2026 census is wrapping up. The second notices have been sent out over 2 weeks ago. I have 190 voters that will be inactivated due to the fact that they have not returned their census. If you would like to avoid having to fill out the Affirmation of Current and Continuous Residence paperwork the next time you come to vote, then please get that census back to me. I will be inactivating any non-respondents on Monday, April 27th. If you aren't sure if you are one of them, please call me at 978-724-6649 and I will let you know. I appreciate your cooperation.

Only 120 voters turned out today out of 1092 but we still did what we needed to.

Early/Absentee ballots are in for the April 6th Annual Election. You have to request to be an early voter every year. They expire on 12/31. I have posted the link for the form. If you would like an early ballot (a no excuse ballot) please fill out the form and deliver it to my office by mail, the outside box or stop in. If you are stopping in, you can early vote when you show up (if my office is open). You cannot be handed a ballot to take home. It must be mailed to you. You can request for one particular election or for the year. If you are requesting for the year, be sure to put your party choice under the state primary or I will be calling you. This year as of right now we have the April 6th Annual Election, the September 1st State Primary and the November 3rd State Election. The 2026 Annual Town Census has been sent out and is reaching your mailboxes. Thank you for returning them so quickly. You can mail them back, drop them out front of the office building in the drop box, or leave them in the Selectboard office or the Town Clerk's Office. Remember that if you have dogs you have been given the form to renew their licenses. Due to the change in the cost of sending back the licenses, only envelopes with proper postage will be mailed back. If insufficient postage is attached, you will receive a phone call or an email to pick up your license(s) from the Town Office Building. Last year when the post office instituted this change, this office took care of the extra postage costs.

If you did not receive a census form, please call the Town Clerk's Office to get one. Failure to return the census form shall result in removal from the active voting list and may result in removal from the voter registration rolls. (M.G.L. Ch. 51, § 4c).

Petersham Annual Election

The Petersham Annual Town Election will be held on April 6, 2026 from 10am – 8pm at the Town Hall. Nomination papers are available at the Town Clerk’s Office Monday evenings 5:30pm – 7:00pm or by appointment. Papers must be returned by Thursday, February 19, 2026. The last day to register to vote is Friday March 27th.

The following positions are on the ballot Moderator – currently held by Bart Wendell, Selectboard – currently held by Susan Dougherty, Treasurer – currently held by Dana Robinson, Board of Assessors – currently held by Ellen Anderson, Board of Health – currently held by Stephen Loring, Mahar Regional School Committee – currently held by Stephen Hammond (appointed), Petersham School Committee – currently held by Lynne Feldman, 2 positions on the Planning Board – currently held by Fraser Sinclair and John Lawson and Trustees of Public Library – currently held by Kent Byron.

Susan Dougherty has said that she will not be running for the position of Selectboard leaving that seat open. According to bylaws of the Trustees of the Public Library a person can only hold 3 terms so that position is now open as Kent Byron is completing his 3rd term. Mahar Regional School Committee is currently held by Stephen Hammond who was appointed. He must take out papers and run on the ballot to fill the remaining 2 years.

The blanket nomination has been signed by Dana Robinson for Treasurer and Lynne Feldman for Petersham School Committee at this time. Incumbents have until February 19th to sign expressing the intention to run for re-election.

This was an early night with only 118 voters coming out. Thank you to my fantastic election team Gayle Bassett, Tally Lent, Kay Goodale, Robin Koenig and Joe Mongeau. You guys rock! And I can’t forget our police Dana Cooley and Peter Buck. Thank you to the voters who came out and gave us something to do and congratulations to the candidates who stepped up to the plate to serve the Town of Petersham.

The Petersham Annual Election will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025. The polls will be open from 10:00am – 8:00pm. The last day to register to vote is Friday, February 21, 2025. Nomination papers are available now. The last day to file papers is January 13, 2025 at 5:00.
The offices on the ballot will be Selectboard – 3 years currently held by Deborah Poodry, Board of Assessors – 3 years currently held by Jean Robinson, Board of Health – 3 years currently held by Fifi Scoufopoulos, Mahar Regional School Committee – 3 years, held by Maryanne Reynolds, Petersham School Committee – 3 years currently held by Lynn Jones Peredina, Planning Board – 3 years currently held by Donna Byron and Trustees of Public Library currently held by Hilary Loring.
Donn Byron has signed the Blanket Nomination for the Planning Board. The Town Clerk has been notified by Fifi Scoufopoulos that she will not run for the Board of Health, Lynn Jones Peredina that she will not be running for the Petersham School Committee and Maryanne Reynold that she will not be running for the Mahar School Committee.
