This week our afterschool programs looked a little different! Between the first ballgames down at the field, the last week of school before summer, crazy wind and rain, and all sorts of personal side project chaos on my end… we rolled with it and made the best of the week! 🌷🌦️⚾
Tuesday, May 19th was 3rd grade and up. With away games happening, Sierra, Madi, and I planted flowers for the two concession stand pots down at the ball field. Thanks to the frost warning, the flowers spent the night safe and cozy at the library before making their official appearance Wednesday!
Wednesday, May 20th, Amy from Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom joined us for Iowa Garden Day! She read Tops and Bottoms, and the kids got to taste different veggies including spinach, cucumbers, cauliflower, celery, and carrots. We also did Garden Yoga, dug for worms with trowels, and used magnifying glasses to get a closer look at them. 🪱🥕🌱
While snacking, we played Veggie Bingo and then helped plant the flower bed under the library sign with zinnias and marigolds — including a few flowers the kids had grown from seed themselves!
Thursday, May 21st, we planted flowers in the old water trough, the pots under the flags by the community center, and transplanted some cosmos that had come up from seeds dropped last year to the back of the library. 🌼
Thank you Amy and Sierra for helping with programs, thank you kids for all your hard work, and thank you rain for the free watering! ☔
We WILL have summer programs! I’ll be posting schedules over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out!
