Greenwood Cemetery

Greenwood Cemetery Providing people who live in and love Petoskey with a tranquil resting place high upon a bluff overlooking Little Traverse Bay.

Greenwood Cemetery is located in Petoskey, Michigan, overlooking beautiful Little Traverse Bay. Greenwood is a perpetual care, municipal cemetery serving the Northern Michigan area. It was created by an act of the Michigan Legislature in 1897 by the City of Petoskey, Bear Creek Township, and Resort Township. It is comprised of 105 acres of rolling terrain with mature trees, shrubs, flowers, and be

autiful views of Lake Michigan. In 2017, Greenwood was honored to be recognized as a Level 1 arboretum. Greenwood has progressed to a full-fledged resource for genealogical and historical research. At Greenwood’s website www.gwood.us, you will find obituaries and death certificates, photos of each marker in Greenwood, stories about individuals, veteran’s information, tens of thousands of historical photos from the Petoskey News-Review archives, tens of thousands of local area newspapers beginning in 1875, and more. There are more than three miles of paved roads at Greenwood. It is a peaceful place to walk, to enjoy nature, to learn about new tree species, to watch for birds, to enjoy the views of sailboats (or fish shanties) on Little Traverse Bay, and to reflect on life.
