It was commissioned in 1912 by (Anna) Georgina Mackey, daughter of Joanna and Patrick Mackey. Georgina is memorializing her family, through her mother, with this stained glass art. Joanna and Patrick were both born in Ireland, in 1837 and 1825, respectively; they married here in Humboldt in 1867. Joanna had come as part of the McAuliffe family, being the niece of Petrolia-area pioneers John and Dennis McAuliffe; Patrick was the brother of prominent rancher and businessman John A. Mackey.
St. Patrick's will be open this Saturday, though there will not be a mass. The intention is to open the church every 2nd Saturday of the month, regardless of whether or not Father is able to come.
Joyce Benton of the Friends of St. Patrick's made this announcement:
"Please join us this coming Saturday to see how you can become involved and become a Friend of St. Patrick's! The doors will be open at 10 a.m. for viewing and clean-up of the inside as well as the outside....bring your tools or cleaning supplies.
"Father Joe is not available to give the Celebration of Mass, but at 11 a.m. we will observe a quiet time of prayer and self-reflection. Please join us!"
