On Wednesday evening, Horizon Elementary celebrated the completion of its incredible summer renovations with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony! Horizon Principal Christie Johnson and Superintendent Dr. Mike Cady welcomed eight Horizon students to do the honors and officially open their newly transformed school!

The project included replacing the original tile, installed when Horizon opened in 2001, with new carpeting throughout the building. The update also created an opportunity to introduce refreshed colors and an exciting camping theme that will inspire our third through fifth grade students as they adventure and learn throughout the year.

Additional highlights include a new large-group instruction space, created by combining two classrooms into a flexible gathering area for students and staff. The Horizon Makerspace was also renovated to provide more room, improved storage, windows connecting it to the library, and an engaging environment where students can explore STEAM skills.

The celebration also welcomed Pewaukee High School senior Audrianna Dellemann. When Audrianna was a 6th grade student, she approached District administrators with an idea: install solar panels to reduce energy costs. With the solar project now complete, it was incredibly special to have her at the grand opening to see her idea come to life.

Like so many facility projects throughout the District, Horizon’s transformation was a true team effort. Administrators from across the District helped paint throughout the summer, while Horizon staff volunteered additional hours to ensure the building was ready to welcome students for the new school year.
