This weekend was an anniversary of sorts for me. Commanding the amazing paratroopers shown in the attached photo… one of whom followed me out of an airplane a little too fast. Our parachutes tangled on opening, and we fell faster than either of us would have liked. 😂 I hit first, which allowed his chute to catch some air and he landed without being hurt. I was medevac’d off the drop zone and spent some time in the hospital, but recovered and was able to return to duty. Every May 9th I remember and am grateful for my paratroopers, the medics and pilots and doctors, and just for still being around to tell that story. My mom used to say that God loves fools and Irishmen, and I think I qualify on both counts!
