As I mentioned yesterday, New Zealand celebrated its very first Matariki public holiday yesterday, marking the New Year for the indigenous Maori population. Here is a reflection from a Maori journalist on how the Matariki stars (the seven sisters) mark this event.
I find it interesting that on the very same day in the USA, Juneteenth is celebrated as a public holiday...New beginnings all around...
