🌎 Notary Myth or Fact: Can you notarize a document written in a language you don’t understand?

FACT — depending on your state’s laws and requirements.

In many cases, a Notary does not need to understand the language the document itself is written in. However, the Notary still needs to be able to communicate directly with the signer and understand the notarial certificate they’re completing.

Before proceeding with a foreign-language document, always check your state’s Notary laws for any specific restrictions or requirements.
