We're continuing to celebrate 15 years of POWER, bringing stories from our legacy to the forefront! Wes Lanthrop helped lead the charge when POWER was just a few people meeting in church pews. His leadership helped us in our early organizing efforts in Philadelphia, especially in the fight we took with the airport staff until they were awarded fair wages. He reminds that faith doesn't sit still, it moves towards action.

The stats don't lie. Property tax hikes are impacting our most vulnerable communities in Philadelphia and we can't stay silent about it. Activism and organizing can be confused with one another, so we’re drawing a dividing line. Organizing builds long term community power and builds leadership from within. We've heard it all before. "Trickle down economics will catch up to the working class" We've seen the consequences of policies that prioritize the billionaire and business class of Philadelphia. Communities are stuck choosing between rent and healthcare. Kids lose schools and the communities they brought. Enough is enough. We are bringing our communities and congregations together to create policy that responds to the people; not the wealthy.

As we continue to celebrate our legacy, we look back at our earlier organizing in Philadelphia. We've always championed affordability and better wages for the workforce that keeps our city moving. Take a look back as we stood with air port workers striking until they reached a settlement that guaranteed higher wages and a true path to freedom. Last weekend, an important conversation was held at (NABJ) National Association of Black Journalists with our Executive Director and panelist from. Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals Sojourn Strategies Building Freedom Ohio . We acknowledged that there is declining trust and disillusionment with government and politics causing disaffected folks to be less engaged in the full democratic experience.

We're changing that narrative, one conversation at a time and bringing trust and engagement back to our communities!
