Derek has been with Pathways for a little over a year now. When we chatted with him late last year, he expressed gratitude for the whole Pathways team, especially Reese on Team 7. Derek is proud of his recovery journey and happy in his apartment. He said he enjoys relaxing at his home and joking around with his peers. Looking ahead, Derek is focused on getting a job to provide a stable income for himself.

Last week, Congress passed the largest housing affordability bill in decades, sending it to the President's desk after earning broad bipartisan support in both the House and Senate. With lawmakers from both parties backing the bill, it's one of the clearest signs in years that rising housing costs demand federal action. At the time of this post, the bill remains unsigned. Read more from NPR:

President Trump canceled a signing ceremony for the bill Wednesday, saying Congress must first pass a strict voter ID bill.

Please join us in congratulating Candace Henryhand and Francis O'Neill on their 9-year work anniversaries at Pathways to Housing PA!

Candace has been a staple at Pathways for almost a decade. Now the Assistant Team Leader on Team 1, Candace has built relationships with folks from all teams during her time here. She leads with grace and kindness, establishing trust with participants and staff. We are truly lucky to have her at Pathways!

Francis, a Service Coordinator and Substance Use Specialist on Team 9, is a steady, reliable peer for our participants. Francis is known for finding folks who are notoriously hard to find, and encouraging the most resistant to start their recovery journeys. Pathways is incredibly grateful to have Francis on our team!

Thank you, Candace and Francis, for your passion and commitment to our mission and those we serve!

Today is Juneteenth, marking the end of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation abolished slavery nationwide. Although it’s long been celebrated in the African American community, this holiday remains unknown to many Americans and wasn’t federally recognized until 2021.

While celebrating today (and possibly enjoying the day off), let’s diligently work for equity in our communities. We continue to see growing inequalities in housing, healthcare, access to gainful employment, and so much more. Take some time to learn about Juneteenth today, buy from Black- and minority-owned businesses, and support organizations promoting racial equity in your community. A major shift in federal homelessness funding priorities could have serious consequences for providers and their communities. HUD recently announced changes to its Continuum of Care (CoC) funding program, placing greater emphasis on treatment-focused and transitional housing programs while reducing funding available for existing permanent housing programs. Experts estimate these changes could put nearly 97,000 formerly homeless people at risk of losing their housing or housing assistance. Read more from National Low Income Housing Coalition about the other harmful changes included in this notice:

Important Update: We opened our doors to our member agencies this week, and we had an overwhelming turnout from the community. More than 350 individuals entered the warehouse to pick out furniture items for their homes.

As a result of that unexpected turnout, we will no longer be hosting open house days this month. Our stock of furniture is depleted and we are unable to support any additional community members.

Please do not make plans to bring your clients or visit the warehouse yourself this month.

We apologize for the mixed messaging about our plans for opening the doors to the community and appreciate your patience as we navigate the closing of a long-time program housed in a large space.

We remain deeply grateful to the staff, partners, supporters, customers, volunteers, and community members who made this work possible over the years. Together, we helped thousands of individuals and families turn empty spaces into homes, and we are proud of the impact these programs had in the community.

Thank you,
