Art in nature can come at a cost! These patterns are made by the Honey-locust borer, a species known for feeding on Honey-locust trees, particularly those under stress.

Called serpentine tunnels, they're formed by larvae chewing intricate channels beneath the bark, disrupting the tree's nutrient pathways. While the Honey-locust borer wasn't the cause of death for our trees, its presence offers a window into their health.

🎃 Harvest Festival at Awbury Arboretum brings together local farmers, community organizations, artists, educators, environmental advocates, and small businesses for a day celebrating a greener, healthier Philadelphia.

Come explore the farm in all its autumn glory, shop with local vendors and artisans, enjoy live music and activities all day — crafts, hay and horse rides, fun with goats! 🐐 You’ll be able to connect with community organizations and enjoy amazing local food and libations, too.

🍁 Best of all, it’s FREE! Bring your neighbors, friends, and family and enjoy peak fall at Awbury. It is a gem in NW Philly!

Large, beautiful, and vibrant in color, Ironweed (Vernonia) is an amazing addition to any native plant garden!

A true biodiversity powerhouse, Ironweed is beloved by gardeners and pollinators alike: native bees, butterflies, and seed-loving songbirds like goldfinches and sparrows! Deer tend to steer clear thanks to its bitter taste, so it's a win-win for your garden.

Plus, it brings extra vibrancy to the Cope House with every bloom. Stop by Awbury this fall to see what else is blooming!
