A message from our friends at TMA Bucks! Fall brings crisp mornings, colorful foliage, and changing road conditions. As we settle into the season, the Newtown Township Police Department reminds motorists to slow down, stay alert, and be prepared for seasonal driving hazards.

🍁 Wet Leaves
Fallen leaves can become extremely slippery when wet, sometimes creating conditions similar to ice. Leaves can also cover lane markings and other roadway markings. Slow down and use extra caution on leaf-covered roads.

🌫️ Fog
Use your low-beam headlights when driving in fog. High beams can reflect off the fog and make it even harder to see. Remember: Pennsylvania law requires motorists to turn on their headlights whenever windshield wipers are in continuous or intermittent use.

☀️ Sun Glare
Sunrise and sunset often coincide with busy commuting hours. Keep sunglasses handy, make sure your sun visor is accessible, and keep your windshield clean to improve visibility.

❄️ Frost & Ice
As overnight temperatures drop, frost and icy patches can develop, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas. Completely clear frost from your windows before driving and watch for slick spots.

🦌 Watch for Deer
Fall also means increased deer activity throughout Bucks County. Be especially alert around dawn and dusk, slow down in areas where deer are frequently seen, and remember: if you see one deer, there may be others nearby.

⏰ Give Yourself Extra Time
One of the easiest ways to make your commute safer is to plan ahead. Leaving a few minutes early can reduce the temptation to speed or drive aggressively when road and weather conditions change.

Beautiful fall scenery can come with challenging driving conditions. A little extra time, attention, and caution can help everyone reach their destination safely.

Today, members of the Newtown Township Police Department joined members of the Newtown Borough Police Department in beginning our morning by honoring and remembering Officer Brian S. Gregg #5103.

Officer Gregg’s bravery, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. His service and sacrifice continue to live on in the hearts of his family, fellow officers, and the community he proudly served.

We extend our thoughts and prayers to Officer Gregg’s family, friends, and fellow officers today and every day.

The Newtown Township Police Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Hugh A. Marshall Landscape Contractors of New Hope, PA, for their generous support and donation of labor and materials at our police department training range.

Their team provided skilled workers, equipment, time, and materials to clear brush and backfill areas of the range. Their generosity and hard work have helped improve this important training facility for our officers.

Having a safe and functional local training range allows our officers to maintain readiness, enhance their skills, and complete mandatory training close to home. Keeping this training local also reduces travel and outside facility costs, ultimately helping save taxpayer dollars.

We are extremely grateful to Hugh A. Marshall Landscape Contractors for investing their time, resources, and expertise in support of our officers and the Newtown Township community.

Today, Friday, September 18, members of the Newtown Township Police Department attended a dedication ceremony hosted by Pennsylvania State Representative Kristen Marcell honoring Captain Walter H. Sigafoos III, a Richboro native and U.S. Air Force officer who remains missing in action from the Vietnam War.

A portion of Second Street Pike in Richboro was dedicated in Captain Sigafoos’ honor during a ceremony held at Addisville Church. The dedication also took place on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, a day dedicated to remembering and honoring those who were prisoners of war or remain missing in action.

On April 25, 1971, Captain Sigafoos disappeared after the F-4 Phantom he was serving aboard crashed in Laos near the Ho Chi Minh Trail. According to officials, Captain Sigafoos remains the only Bucks County service member still listed as missing in action from the Vietnam War.

Decades later, this dedication serves as a lasting tribute to Captain Sigafoos’ service and sacrifice, while ensuring that his story and the impact on his family and our community are never forgotten.

There is also a special connection to the Newtown Township Police Department. Captain Sigafoos’ brother, Albert Sigafoos, proudly served as a Newtown Township Police Officer from 1979 to 2004 before retiring from the department.

Today, we honor Captain Sigafoos, his family, and all of the brave men and women who have served our nation. We will never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who remain missing, their families who continue to carry their memory, and all who have served and continue to serve our country.

We have recently received reports of overnight thefts from vehicles in our area. In many cases, these incidents can be crimes of opportunity, particularly when vehicles are left unlocked or valuables are visible inside.

Before heading inside for the night:

✅ Lock your vehicle doors
✅ Close all windows and the sunroof
✅ Remove valuables and electronics from plain view
✅ Take your keys/key fob inside
✅ Park in a well-lit area when possible
✅ Check your vehicle before going to bed

Please take a moment tonight to make sure your vehicle is secure. A few seconds spent locking your car could save you from becoming an easy target.

If you see something suspicious in your neighborhood, don’t approach, call 911 or contact the police department.

Durham Rd (Rt 413) will be closed to all traffic between Wrights Rd & the Newtown Bypass, beginning 11pm on Sat 9/12/26 through approximately 4am on Sun 9/13/26, to replace a damaged Verizon utility pole.
Local traffic only will be permitted through from the Newtown Bypass, but please use caution.
