The City of Philadelphia, MS Philadelphia is a city in and the county seat of Neshoba County, Mississippi, United States.

The region of Neshoba county and the surrounding counties was the heart of the Choctaw Nation from the 17th century until removal of most of the people in the 1830s. European-American settlers began to arrive in numbers in the early decades of the nineteenth century, after French, British and Spanish traders developed business relationships with the Choctaw.

As we head into the holiday weekend, we hope everyone has the opportunity to slow down, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy a well-deserved break!

All of us at City Hall appreciate each and every person who works hard every day to make Philadelphia the great city we are proud to call home. From our local businesses and industries to our educators, healthcare workers, first responders, city employees, tradesmen, service workers, and everyone in between, our community simply would not be what it is without you.

🚨 Don’t drink and drive this holiday weekend. 🚨

As you make plans to enjoy the long weekend, make sure getting home safely is part of those plans. Drinking and driving puts your life, your passengers, and everyone else on the road at risk. If you’ve been drinking, don’t get behind the wheel.

The Philadelphia Police Department will have an increased presence throughout the weekend, including various security checkpoints across the area. Officers will be working to help keep our streets safe, so remember: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Plan ahead. Designate a sober driver, hand over the keys, or arrange another safe way home. A few extra minutes of planning could save a life.

BLOUNT STREET BRIDGE PROJECT UPDATE

We are pleased to share that work officially mobilized on the Blount Street Bridge this morning! Repairs are now underway, and after a long process, we are finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

While this is an exciting step forward, please remember that the bridge will remain closed to the public after repairs are completed until State Aid has inspected and approved the work. At this time, we estimate the repair work and required inspection process will take approximately four to six weeks.

We know this project has required patience from our community, and we sincerely appreciate your continued understanding as we work through the many moving parts necessary to complete the project safely and properly.

We look forward to the day we can officially announce that the Blount Street Bridge is open once again!

Beginning tomorrow night, August 12, Myrtle Street to Beacon Street will be closed from 8:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. while MDOT completes roadwork repairs in the area. Work may continue into August 13.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution, plan accordingly, and consider an alternate route during these hours.

Local traffic: Please utilize side streets.
Truck traffic: Please utilize the Highway 15 North/Highway 19 North bypass intersection and travel south to go south of Philadelphia.

Please plan ahead if you’ll be traveling through the Holland Avenue area on Monday, August 10.

Road Closure:
Holland Avenue (from East Hospital Road to Main Street)
Time: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

During the closure, motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes. Recommended detours include traveling west on East Hospital Road, then north on Range Avenue to Main Street, or taking Weyerhaeuser Road to Lewis Avenue to Highway 16 West.

Please allow yourself a little extra travel time, use caution while traveling near the area, and follow all posted traffic signs.

🚦 Traffic Advisory 🚦

The City of Philadelphia is currently experiencing issues with the traffic signal at the intersection of Byrd Avenue and Beacon Street.

We urge all motorists to use extra caution when approaching and traveling through this intersection. Please reduce your speed, stay alert, avoid distractions, and be prepared to stop. Even if you have the right-of-way, take a moment to make sure cross traffic is stopping before proceeding. A few extra seconds of caution can help prevent a serious accident.

Remember:
🟡 Flashing Yellow = Slow down and proceed with caution.
🔴 Flashing Red = Come to a complete stop and treat the intersection as a stop sign before proceeding when it is safe to do so.

The safety of our residents and visitors is our top priority. Thank you for your patience, your cooperation, and for doing your part to help keep everyone on our roadways safe while this traffic signal issue is being addressed.

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen have released highlights from the July 7, 2026, meeting. The update includes approved appointments, budget workshop dates, public safety updates, and other City business.

We encourage all citizens to stay informed and involved in your local government. The next Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 21, at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall.
