The City of Philadelphia, MS Philadelphia is a city in and the county seat of Neshoba County, Mississippi, United States.

The region of Neshoba county and the surrounding counties was the heart of the Choctaw Nation from the 17th century until removal of most of the people in the 1830s. European-American settlers began to arrive in numbers in the early decades of the nineteenth century, after French, British and Spanish traders developed business relationships with the Choctaw.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Beginning tomorrow night, August 12, Myrtle Street to Beacon Street will be closed from 8:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. while MDOT completes roadwork repairs in the area. Work may continue into August 13.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution, plan accordingly, and consider an alternate route during these hours.

Local traffic: Please utilize side streets.
Truck traffic: Please utilize the Highway 15 North/Highway 19 North bypass intersection and travel south to go south of Philadelphia.

🚧 TRAFFIC ADVISORY 🚧

Please plan ahead if you’ll be traveling through the Holland Avenue area on Monday, August 10.

Road Closure:
Holland Avenue (from East Hospital Road to Main Street)
Time: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

During the closure, motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes. Recommended detours include traveling west on East Hospital Road, then north on Range Avenue to Main Street, or taking Weyerhaeuser Road to Lewis Avenue to Highway 16 West.

Please allow yourself a little extra travel time, use caution while traveling near the area, and follow all posted traffic signs.

🚦 Traffic Advisory 🚦

The City of Philadelphia is currently experiencing issues with the traffic signal at the intersection of Byrd Avenue and Beacon Street.

We urge all motorists to use extra caution when approaching and traveling through this intersection. Please reduce your speed, stay alert, avoid distractions, and be prepared to stop. Even if you have the right-of-way, take a moment to make sure cross traffic is stopping before proceeding. A few extra seconds of caution can help prevent a serious accident.

Remember:
🟡 Flashing Yellow = Slow down and proceed with caution.
🔴 Flashing Red = Come to a complete stop and treat the intersection as a stop sign before proceeding when it is safe to do so.

The safety of our residents and visitors is our top priority. Thank you for your patience, your cooperation, and for doing your part to help keep everyone on our roadways safe while this traffic signal issue is being addressed.

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen have released highlights from the July 7, 2026, meeting. The update includes approved appointments, budget workshop dates, public safety updates, and other City business.

We encourage all citizens to stay informed and involved in your local government. The next Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 21, at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall.

🇺🇸 Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday Safely! 🇺🇸

This Saturday, our nation will celebrate 250 years of American independence, and the City of Philadelphia encourages everyone to have a fun, memorable, and safe Fourth of July!

If you plan to enjoy fireworks this weekend, please take a few moments to review the City’s fireworks ordinance before celebrating. The graphic below outlines the approved dates and times for fireworks, prohibited locations, required safety distances, and other important regulations designed to help keep our community safe.

As you celebrate, please remember to:
• Provide adult supervision whenever children are using or around fireworks.
• Keep pets indoors, as loud noises can cause fear and anxiety.
• Have water or a hose nearby in case of an emergency.
• Clean up firework debris after your celebration to help keep our community clean.
• Call 911 immediately if an emergency occurs.

By following these simple safety tips and the City’s fireworks ordinance, we can all do our part to protect our families, neighbors, first responders, and property while celebrating this historic milestone in our nation’s history.

The City of Philadelphia would like to remind residents that all City offices will be closed on Friday, June 26, in observance of Fair Day, as approved by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

As we celebrate one of our community’s most cherished traditions, we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable time at the Neshoba County Fair. Please note that Police and Fire Department services will remain fully operational during the closure.
