Six months can change a life. 💙

When Patrick arrived at Saint John’s Hospice, he was rebuilding his life after incarceration and addiction. Six months later, he found full-time employment, secured housing of his own, and completed the SJH residential program.

Along the way, he found something else: a community he knows he can turn to when he needs support.

“This place saved my life,” Patrick said.

Nearly 80 cooked casseroles are served at Saint John’s Hospice every weekday to help provide more than 250 hot lunches to local community members experiencing homelessness and poverty. 🥘 With each casserole feeding 6-8 people, every donation helps nourish our vulnerable neighbors.

Nine men. Nine journeys. One incredible milestone.

On August 14, we celebrated nine men who successfully completed the Saint John’s Hospice residential program – the largest number of graduates in recent years to complete the program.

Each of these men came to SJH without a permanent place to call home. During their time here, they worked alongside our case managers and staff to address the challenges that brought them to SJH and take meaningful steps forward, from securing important documents and finding employment to identifying permanent housing and reconnecting with family and community.

Now, they leave Saint John’s with a place to live and a foundation for the next chapter of their lives.

To these nine men: We celebrate your perseverance, your hard work and your commitment to what comes next. Your journeys are powerful reminders that change is possible and that no one has to walk the path forward alone.

Congratulations from all of us at SJH and Catholic Charities of Philadelphia. We can’t wait to see where your next chapter takes you. 💙

A great big Saint John's Hospice "Thank you!" to Big League Impact and our volunteers from the Miami Marlins for making today great for our residents, guests, and staff. Also, much love and appreciation to our friends at Bombas for donating the socks that the Marlin's distributed this afternoon to our day services guests.

Kevin Tinney knew that volunteering at Saint John’s Hospice was his calling. But it wasn’t until he came into possession of a few family letters that he realized the “why” – to carry on the legacy of service his father started with Catholic Charities of Philadelphia and pass it down into the Tinney family’s next generation. 💙
