Thank you to a special guest! Chef Joe Muldoon, owner of Haddon Culinary in Collingswood, NJ, led a hands-on workshop and taught JEVS Independence Network members how to make sweet and savory hand pies. Chef Muldoon volunteered his time and also employs one of the program members. The Haddon Culinary team is a great example of commitment to the value of inclusive communities!

Thank you to the Nonprofit Finance Fund for creating space for such an important conversation at Heart of the Sector: Centering Worker Well-Being in Philadelphia Nonprofits.

As nonprofits navigate an increasingly challenging political and funding landscape, prioritizing the people who carry out this essential work has never been more important.

JEVS President and CEO Cynthia Figueroa was honored to participate in the conversation and reflect on the work of the Nonprofit Leaders Group (NPLG), which is building community among nonprofit leaders and helping organizations navigate this moment together.

As Cynthia shared, “If the nonprofit sector is not well, then the community is not well.”

We are grateful to everyone who contributed to this timely conversation and continues working to strengthen the people and organizations taking care of our communities.

This week, we joined our partners to celebrate the expansion of the START program—now supporting individuals ages 6 and up with intellectual and neuro/intellectual-developmental disabilities (IDD) and mental health (MH) needs.

Developed and overseen by the National Center for START Services at the University of New Hampshire's Institute on Disability, the program works to improve service outcomes and bridge gaps between siloed care systems.

START’s person-centered model not only provides intervention support but also helps prevent crisis, ensuring holistic care for those with complex needs. JEVS is proud to stand alongside our partners, leading the way in building stronger, more connected support systems.

JEVS is proud to celebrate our President and CEO Cynthia Figueroa, who was honored by the The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia at its 2026 Celebrate Hope Annual Luncheon. Congratulations to Cynthia and fellow honorees Anita 'Niki' Hawkins and Congressman Dwight Evans!

In her remarks, Cynthia shared one of her mother’s favorite sayings: “Dime con quién andas y te diré quién eres.” Tell me who you walk with, and I’ll tell you who you are.

She reflected on the leaders, partners, and mentors she has had the honor of walking alongside, including Bonnie Camarda and Pedro Ramos. We’re grateful for Cynthia’s leadership and for the relationships that strengthen our community. Walking together is how we create solutions to today’s challenges.
