Neshoba Youth Coalition

Neshoba Youth Coalition BUILDING THE NEXT GENERATION OF COMMUNITY LEADERS! The youth leadership program began in October of 2010.

It was formed in response to the work of the Philadelphia Coalition that recognized the disconnect between the civil rights generation and the post civil rights generation. The idea was to develop a program that would provide our young leaders with the knowledge to make intelligent and informed decisions that lead to positive and sustainable change. Our Mission:
Neshoba Youth Coalition’s mission i

s to develop academic skills, behaviors, and attitudes in academically motivated teens to improve their grades, standardized test scores, attendance, and opportunities. Our purpose is to contribute to the healing of the Philadelphia community by uplifting its most vulnerable students. The need for the project rose from discussions among the members of the Philadelphia Coalition about the problems Philadelphia youth were having in school and in the community, so the focus is on empowering these students to succeed in school and life. The program teaches the youth through the lenses of history, past and present, to ask critical questions concerning what has happened in the past, what were the conditions or environment that allowed these things to happen and how do we develop strategies that prevent these things from happening again.

Meet the Neshoba Youth Coalition
A youth-led movement working to build leadership, strengthen community, and expand opportunity for the next generation.
The images you’re seeing are from our annual Christmas Party, where students celebrated another year of growth and achievement.
Today we are also releasing our new theme song, “We Are NYC!”
It captures our mission, our spirit, and our belief in our young people.
We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
We Are NYC!

Today is the National Day of Racial Healing, and our young people had something to say about it. From Philly to the world, the Neshoba Youth Coalition proudly shares our original song, “The National Day of Racial Healing” because healing is not theory, it’s lived, practiced, and built every day in our community.

"Happy Birthday to our beautiful and amazing daughter! Watching you grow into the strong, kind, and remarkable woman you are today has been one of the greatest joys of our life. We could not be prouder of the incredible wife, and mother you’ve become to our two wonderful grandboys. Your dedication as a teacher and the love you pour into everything you do inspire us every day. You’ve touched so many lives, and we’re blessed to call you our daughter. May this year bring you even more happiness, love, and success. Keep shining, sweetheart. Love you always."
