I'm proud to stand up for our 2nd Amendment. Gun owners shouldn't have to fight unnecessary bureaucracy.

This cartoon is exactly right, and the reason it stings is simple, history has already run the experiment. The results were not merely disappointing, they were catastrophic.

The Soviet Union promised equality, abundance, and liberation from capitalism. What it delivered was forced collectivization, political terror, chronic shortages, and an economy that eventually sank into stagnation. The Soviet system poured resources into state priorities while ordinary people waited in lines for basic goods, and the union finally collapsed in 1991.

Mao’s China tried to leap into socialist prosperity by replacing individual judgment with centralized commands. The Great Leap Forward disrupted agriculture and helped produce the largest famine in modern history, with research commonly estimating roughly 30 million deaths.

In Cambodia, the communist Khmer Rouge abolished money and markets, confiscated private property, emptied cities, and forced people into agricultural labor. Between 1975 and 1979, mass killing, starvation, disease, and forced labor killed around two million people, roughly one quarter of the population.

Venezuela offered a more recent warning. A resource-rich country embraced nationalization, price controls, political centralization, and government domination of major industries. Economic mismanagement, corruption, and collapsing oil production helped produce hyperinflation, shortages, poverty, and one of the largest migration crises in the modern Western Hemisphere. Sanctions later worsened the damage, but the breakdown was already underway.

The pattern is not complicated. Socialists promise that this time the right people will be in charge. History shows that concentrated economic power quickly becomes concentrated political power, incentives disappear, production weakens, dissent is punished, and citizens pay the price.

If socialists truly knew this history, they would not remain socialists. They would see an old promise, repackaged for a generation that was never taught the cost.

Why do you think so many people still defend socialism after its record has been written in suffering, shortages, and graves?
