Today at 1220, our department was alerted to a structure fire on Sand Run Road, along with automatic mutual aid from Belington VFD, Junior VFD, and Nutterfort VFD. Engine 42, Engine 43, and PC 47 responded shortly after dispatch and arrived on scene to find a fully involved structure. Tragically, one fatality was confirmed, and a second patient was located outside the residence with burn injuries.

Crews quickly went to work utilizing the deck gun and multiple handlines from Engine 42, bringing the fire under control in approximately 40 minutes. The injured patient was transported to a nearby landing zone and flown by HealthNet for further treatment. We extend our deepest condolences to those affected by this incident.

Additional units on scene included Belington Engines 33 35, and Brush 38 (Handled LZ at PBHS), Junior Tanker 24, Nutterfort Tanker 7 and Brush 74, along with Barbour County Ambulance Authority, Barbour County Sheriff’s Department, West Virginia State Police, Philippi Police Department, and the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office. Chief 4 held command throughout the incident.

Busy couple days for PVFD.

Yesterday at 1141, we were alerted to assist Nutterfort VFD, Stonewood VFD, Lost Creek VFD, and Bridgeport FD for a structure fire with confirmed entrapment. Engine 42 responded and was utilized as an onscene transfer engine. Initial crews from Harrison Co were able to locate and rescue the victim.

Yesterday at 1704, we were alerted with LE and EMS for a 1 vehicle MVA on Glade Run Rd. Engine 42 and Rescue 4 responded. While enroute to the MVA we were alerted for a structure fire off Bear Mtn Rd. LE had arrived onscene with a vehicle off the roadway with no injuries so our apparatus diverted to the structure fire.

At 1722, we were alerted for the structure fire with automatic mutual aid from Flemington VFD, Bridgeport FD, and Nutterfort VFD. Engine 42 and Brush 46 responded. Crews arrived on scene to an outbuilding fire and quickly brought the fire under control. Chief 4 held command

Today at 1504, we were alerted for a 2 vehicle MVA on Rt. 250. Engine 42, Rescue 4, and PC 47 responded. While enroute LE arrived on scene with entrapment x3. Belington VFD was alerted to assist and Rescue 37, and PC 34 responded. Crews arrived and began extricating the patients in both vehicles. All 3 patients were extricated and transported by BCAA to the hospital. Chief 4 held command.

01/30/2026

Yesterday evening at 1900, we were alerted with automatic mutual aid departments Belington VFD, Junior VFD and Grafton FD for a structure fire off Osage Rd. Brush 46, Engine 43, and PC 47 responded shortly after dispatch. Brush 46 arrived on scene to find a working fire caused from a wood burning stove in the wall of the residence. Initial crews utilized the booster line from Brush 46 to quickly place the fire under control. Interior crews opened up the wall and ceiling near the fire to ensure the fire hadn’t spread. Other responding units include Eng 37 and Eng 35- transferred to our station (Belington VFD), Tanker 24 was canceled route (Junior VFD), Grafton FD scratched the call due to them having their own Structure fire, Nutterfort Eng 72 responded but was quickly canceled when the fire was under control. Crews operated on scene for just over 1 hour.

Today at 1146, we were alerted with automatic mutual aid departments Belington VFD, Junior VFD, and Nutterfort VFD for a structure fire on High St in Philippi. LE arrived on scene and found fire showing from a second floor window. Engine 42, Truck 4, and Engine 43 responded shortly after dispatch. Engine 42 arrived on scene and pulled a 1 3/4 crosslay for an interior attack. E42 secured its own hydrant for water supply. Truck 4 arrived and placed its ladder in the air to assist with ventilation and suppression. The fire was placed under control 8 minutes upon arrival of E42. Apparatus responding to scene from other departments include E33 (Belington VFD), Tanker 24 (Junior VFD) and Nutterfort E72 was reassigned as a transfer Engine to our station to cover any additional calls we may have gotten. BCAA was on scene as EMS standby in case an injury occurred. Philippi Electric Dept also responded to ensure power was shut off. Crews were operating on scene for just over 1 hour before returning to station.

12/05/2025

On 12/2 at 2335, we were alerted with BCAA and LE for an MVA on Elk Creek Rd. LE arrived on scene and confirmed 2 patients with one being unresponsive and entrapped. Brush 46 and Rescue 4 responded shortly after dispatch. Medic 719 from Nutterfort EMS was alerted to assist. Ambulance 54 arrived and began assessing both patients. They found one male patient outside the vehicle with severe injuries and unfortunately the entrapped patient had suffered fatal injuries. Crews packaged the male patient into Amb 54 and was transported. LE and PVFD remained on scene until LE and medical examiner gave the go ahead to extricate the deceased patient. The patient was extricated and transported to Broaddus by Amb 163. PVFD returned to station after approximately 2 hours. Other agencies that responded include BCSD, WVSP, Thornes Towing, and Belington VFD was alerted for an Engine transfer to cover any additional calls. Chief 4 held command.

Yesterday evening, Engine 42 traveled to the Forest Festival Fireman’s Parade and came home as Best Appearing Commercial Engine. Engine 42 is our primary Engine as it responds on most MVAs, structure fires, landing zones, etc. E42 carries 1000 gallons of water, multiple pre connects for fire suppression, 1200 ft of large diameter hose for hooking to a water supply, multiple firefighting hand tools, basic stabilization equipment, and a Holmatro Combi tool to assist with extrication on MVAs.

10/04/2025

Yesterday at 0651, we were alerted with BCAA for a MVA on R. 119 near Audra Park Rd. Engine 41, and Rescue 4 responded. Deputy Chief 4 arrived on scene with a large box truck that had struck a guardrail, utility pole, and came to rest partially over an embankment. Crews operated on scene for approximately 2 hours until the roadway was clear. Ryan’s Recker service recovered the vehicle. BCSD was also on scene. Chief 4 held command.

While returning from the above accident, at 0905 we were alerted to a MVA on Rt 92 almost to the Preston Co line. Engine 41, and Rescue 4 responded immediately. Crews arrived to find a truck pulling a trailer had wrecked. Crews operated on scene for approximately 1 hour before returning. BCAA, BCSD, and Thornes Towing also responded. Chief 4 held command.
