This morning (8/9) crews were dispatched to a small fire at on the log landing at Wren Hill Lumber. The fire has been contained and smoke will be visible for days to come. There are no evacuation levels in effect.

Due to the current air quality and out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our community, tonight's National Night Out event has been canceled.

Fatal Rollover Crash on Highway 20 West of Philomath

On Monday, August 3, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 20, approximately seven miles west of Philomath.

A preliminary investigation indicates 55-year-old Eric Hillard Lee, of Corvallis, was traveling west in a black 1999 Honda Passport. For unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed the highway and rolled, coming to rest on the eastbound side.

Highway 20 was closed at Priest Road for approximately two hours while investigators processed the scene. Traffic was diverted onto Highway 223.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office thanks the Philomath Police Department, Philomath Fire and Rescue, Corvallis Regional Communications Center, and the Oregon Department of Transportation for their assistance.

The Benton County Crash Team continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

UPDATE: As of 5:27 pm, Hwy 20 had reopened.

UPDATE: As of 3 pm on July 22, all known lightning caused fires have been extinguished within the Philomath Fire District. Initial Attack efforts kept all fires less than 1/8th of an acre. Additional photo in the comments.

🚒🔥 This afternoon (7/17/26), Philomath Fire and Rescue was dispatched for a Car Fire on Rexford Lane and responded with six personnel in an engine, two brush trucks, a command vehicle, Oregon Department of Forestry - West Oregon District. Crews arrived at the fire within 9 minutes of dispatch. They found a fully engulfed car with the potential for wildfire to spread. A rapid response prevented the spread into a wildland incident. The fire was completely extinguished within 3 minutes of arrival with the combined efforts of Philomath Firefighters IAFF Local 4925, volunteers and additional personnel thanks to Oregon State Fire Marshal's Wildfire Staffing Grant. Corvallis Fire was called upon to cover our district during this incident. 🚒🔥

Update: Late 7/22/26: Our crew has officially arrived home- safe and sound.

🚒🔥 This Tuesday morning, a crew from Philomath Fire & Rescue answered the call under the Conflagration Act, heading out to assist in the challenging East Evans Creek Fire near Grants Pass and Medford. We take pride in serving our community around the clock, and it is our honor to extend that commitment to other communities in their time of need. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to the individuals on the front lines and the supportive families cheering them on from afar. Thanks to our dedicated Volunteer Association and the steadfast support of Philomath Firefighters IAFF Local 4925, we remain ready and equipped to serve our own community.
