Philomath Community Services Philomath Community Services - People Helping People Philomath Community Services, a nonprofit organization, is the parent group that has operated for the past thirty years enabling the service programs of Philomath Food Bank, June’s Kids Kloset, Gleaners, Holiday Cheer, and Lupe's Community Garden.
(2)

Together, these five programs provide crucial services to our community. The Philomath Food Bank supports our community with critical food services. Their current operating hours are Tues 4:30-7:30pm, and Thurs 9am - 12pm. Please note, the Food Bank will follow Philomath School District inclement weather closures. June's Kids Kloset provides clothing to kids up to 18 years of age. Their operating hours are Tues 6 - 8pm and Thurs 9am - 2pm. Please note, the Kids Kloset will follow Philomath School District inclement weather closures. Philomath Gleaners provides participants with supplemental, locally grown food and firewood. The Gleaners operate Wed 4:30 - 6:30pm and Sat 2 - 4pm. Lupe's Community Garden is helping our neighbors help themselves and providing needy families with fresh produce and fruit. Participating families learn to grow some of their own food. Produce is also grown for the Food Bank and Gleaners to use. Holiday Cheer helps bring gifts, holiday meals and cheer to those in need who haven't received help from other organizations. Applications are accepted up to Dec 1st. Philomath Community Services is an equal opportunity provider.

Mission: Philomath Community Services is a 501 C-3 nonprofit organization that is staffed year round by 100% volunteers supporting each of our five programs. PCS assists the community via five different programs led by program managers under the oversight of the PCS Board of Directors. The PCS programs are Philomath Food Bank, June's Kids Kloset, Gleaners, Holiday Cheer and Lupe's Community Garden. Philomath Community Services is an equal opportunity provider.

Happy New Year!!

12/27/2020

It’s almost New Years and we can’t think of a better way to start 2021 than helping others! We could use a few more volunteers in the food bank. There are slots available during the Thursday shift, 9:00-noon. The food bank is currently offering service at the door (in order to limit COVID risk) so the main thing we need help with is filling orders as they come in.

If you are interested in volunteering there are several ways to contact us. You can call (541)929-2499 any time and leave a message, fill out the email contact form on our website and tell us you are super excited to volunteer, or download our volunteer form on our website and mail it to P.O. Box 1334 or send us a message here on FB.

You can support us financially through online donations on our website or you can send us a check. Monthly giving is also a terrific way to provide ongoing support. Don’t forget to select us as the recipient for your Amazon Smile purchases.

Thanks to your generosity we are able to continue serving our neighbors!

Happy Thanksgiving! All of us at PCS are thankful for you, our caring neighbors. You have contributed in so many ways this year; vegetable starts for the community garden, financial donations to provide much needed food and clothing, face masks and hand sanitizer to keep our volunteers and clients safe, and so much more.

One easy way to support our mission is through Amazon Smile. Select Philomath Community Services as your charity of choice and .05% of your eligible purchases will be donated to us. Every dollar donated can help us provide up to six meals!

The Benton County Health Department will be offering a free flu clinic for anyone using our services. They will be in our parking lot on Thursday Nov. 19th from 9-11. This is a convenient opportunity to get your flu shot!

People who sew! If you need a project during this Stay Home situation, PCS has a suggestion! June’s Kids Kloset (JKK) is nearly always in need of pajamas for our toddler group, sizes 2T through 5T, and pre-teens, sizes 6-10, both boys and girls. Pajamas with elastic waistbands are ideal. One pattern should work for both boys and girls, at least for the toddlers. Cotton flannel is great for the winter, but summer pajamas can be as simple as a t-shirt and shorts, also cotton, or a cotton/polyester blend. We do get pajamas in our donations, but usually the quantity does not match our need. A new set of pajamas for our young clients would be such a gift! PCS can reimburse you for the materials, if needed, but you would need to bring in the receipts. If you have any questions, please contact Jean Goul at 541-231-8871.

Philomath Community Services – People Helping People

Community Help during the Pandemic -- Message from PCS Board President, Jean Goul
The COVID-19 Virus Pandemic has caused some serious changes in how Philomath Community Services is able to serve our neighbor clients. June's Kids Kloset is closed as of March 12. As of March 14, the Philomath Community Gleaners had their final shopping style gleaner distribution and expect to go to a prepared box system of food distribution. More people may need to have boxes delivered, but we need to be careful about limiting exposure to the virus and thus limiting the number of volunteers involved in preparing and delivering food.

The Philomath Food Bank as of today will have pre-filled food boxes for pick up only.

There are several ways that folks in our community can help others during this very different pandemic experience. Here is an initial list of ways you can help.
1. Check on your neighbors - offer to grocery shop for them, or see if they need other things.
2. Donate to some helping agencies. As Board President of Philomath Community Services (PCS), I would like to suggest 3 significant ways our Philomath neighbors can help us obtain food for our Philomath Community Gleaners, and Philomath Food Bank, and other partner agencies. Sources of food are now uncertain, and more people may need help during this time when jobs are unstable.

The United Way has reached out to help with funding, and to solicit donations. Linn Benton Food Share is a source of much food for the gleaners and food banks in our area -- when food is available. Here are the websites to make those donations:
a. PCS: https://www.philomathcommunityservices.org/
b. United Way: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19kr7zrOaaUJS2e_PSxx6PKYpjosdyHOI/view?usp=sharing
c. Linn Benton Food Share: http://communityservices.us/nutrition/detail/category/linn-benton-food-share/

Donating food itself is not as useful as donation of money at this time for several reasons. We'd like to be able to offer equitable and balanced food boxes to those in need. Having food coming from different households offers more danger of spreading illness. We would all like to limit exposures to the virus. Linn Benton Food Share can offer our programs food at reduced cost -- if it is available.

This is a dynamic situation, so please check back for updates. Thanks so much for so many offers to help your neighbors!
