Spring is here! With longer days and warmer weather, we want to remind everyone to drive cautiously as more pedestrians, cyclists, and kids are outside enjoying the season. Stay alert and stay safe!

While luck may be part of the holiday, getting home safely shouldn’t rely on it🍀
The Philomath Police Department will be out this weekend with partnering agencies to improve road safety and reduce traffic crashes caused by impaired drivers and hazardous driving behavior.
If your St. Patrick’s Day plans include celebrating, make sure your plan also includes a safe ride home. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare, call a taxi, or make arrangements to stay the night.
Luck

SCAM ALERT - Publisher’s Clearing House
Scams can happen to anyone. The Philomath Police Department was recently contacted by someone claiming we had won the Publisher’s Clearing House raffle and asking how we wanted to receive our $1,000,000 and a Mercedes.

This is a known scam. These fraud attempts typically involve requests for “fees,” “taxes,” or “processing costs” in order to collect your winnings. Scammers often ask for payment through methods that are difficult to trace or recover, such as:
• Wire transfers
• Gift cards
• Cashier’s checks
• Venmo
• PayPal

Important reminders:
• Scammers often use fear or excitement to pressure victims into acting quickly
• Be cautious of unsolicited calls, texts, or emails about:
- Purchases you didn’t make
- Bank account issues
- Government investigations/Arrest warrants
- Prize winnings

The FBI, Social Security Administration, local law enforcement, and other government agencies will never:
• Demand payment by gift cards
• Ask you to move money to a “safe” account
• Request payment to resolve warrants or legal issues

Never call phone numbers provided during suspicious calls or messages to “verify” legitimacy. Scammers can spoof legitimate business and government phone numbers. If you need to confirm information, contact the organization directly using an official phone number or website.

If something feels suspicious or makes you uncomfortable, trust your instincts and contact or visit your local law enforcement agency for guidance.
