Season's Greetings and Merry Christmas to everyone!!!
Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!!!
Philomath PD and Officer Percy.
We got a huge surprise today when Jamal Thomas came in and treated us all to his custom-made, homemade chili.
Jamal is a "student of the game" and refused after intense interrogation to reveal his secret recipe.
Chief Rueben tried the "Ghost Chili" version...(see photo evidence of my reaction!)
Officer Koeppe and Sgt. Gurski tried the "Carolina Reaper" chili and Officer Koeppe still can't open his right eye!
We each graded the future Benton County Public Safety Chili Cookoff Champion. He received an 9.2 from Chief Rueben, an 8.5 from Officer Koeppe, a 9.0 from Deputy Vaughn, an 8.5 from Officer Wulk, and a 9.5 from Sgt. Gurski.
Great Job Jamal....thanks again for your awesome Chile!! (New Mexico spelling!)
Chief Rueben and the guys!!!

Great working with a professional crew of folks, and the digital imagery is amazing!!

How about this sweet blanket we received from a sweet Philomath resident!!!!
We appreciate you!!
Well.....there is a first for everything!
A local family hired an innovative "delivery person" to bring the Philomath Police Department our favorite treats......Donuts of course!
Much to our surprise, lookout out the front doors of our lobby, we could see DAX, the local delivery robot.
Upon further examination, we gleefully learned that we were recipients of a personal donut delivery.
Thank you for the kind thoughts...and thank you DAX for the excellent service!
We know they were not looking for publicity, but the Officers here at Philomath PD wanted to send a special thank you to the staff and congregation of the Philomath Community Church.
The church delivered some special goodies for each of our officers last week, including some much-needed chocolate!!!!!
These people are some of the reasons why this community is an amazing place to live and do business!
Thank you again, we appreciate your concerns and prayers!
Special shout-out to one of our closest supporters!!
We just received a delivery of custom-made cloth masks from Anna Moser. Anna has supplied us with masks and custom sewing services during this pandemic, and she is a superstar here in our community!!!!

We have applied for a grant hosted by AXON to obtain some of this equipment.
They have established a GoFundMe account to help raise matching funds to purchase this equipment.

If you have a Home or Business Security Video System, the Philomath Police Department wants to partner with you to investigate crime!
The Philomath Police Department is establishing a Video Sharing Program that will allow residents to quickly share videos with police.
The first step is identifying participants. If you have a Home or Business Security Video System, and want to assist us, please send your name, address, phone number, system brand, and email address to: [email protected]
What will the Philomath Police do with your information?
Our first goal is identifying where the cameras are in town, and mapping their location. When a crime occurs, we can quickly identify what cameras are located near the crime, and contact Video Camera owners in the area.
If a crime or suspicious activity occurs in town, we will send an email out and ask you to check your Video Security System for particular information. For instance, if we are looking for a suspicious vehicle seen by a witness after a burglary, we will send out the make, color, and model of the vehicle directly to you, and ask you to search your system for the vehicle!
Your information will remain confidential, and we will not share your information with anyone. This program is FREE, and it is NOT an alarm registration program.
Please help of fight crime in Philomath!
If you have any questions, please call our office at
Philomath Fire & Rescue
For residents in the city of Philomath who are shut-in and do not have anyone to drive for them, Philomath Police Department will pick up and deliver pharmacy items from the Philomath Pharmacy and Bi-Mart on 53rd St/Philomath Blvd. This is an arrangement that needs to be made between the resident, their pharmacy, and the Police Department. Please call the Philomath Police office at 541-929-6911 for further information.
Thank you to our partners in public safety in making this available to our residents.
With all of the anxiety of the Corona Virus Pandemic, there are always criminals looking to take advantage of people during these trying times.
We have received a number of emails and calls about suspects attempting to take advantage of the situation by requesting personal information via email and other social media platforms.
The government will NOT request personal information from you via email!!!
We spoke to the Oregon Department of Justice, and they recommended everyone review the Federal Trade Commission website. The site has very informative tips and information on what scams are out there, and where to get accurate information about Government Payments and reimbursements from the recent Corona Virus Legislation.
Please check out the website at:
The FTC and FDA have jointly issued warning letters to seven sellers of unapproved and misbranded products, claiming they can treat or prevent the Coronavirus. The companies’ products include teas, essential oils, and colloidal silver.

Oregon State Police
In an attempt to answer frequently asked questions relating to the enforcement of the Governor’s Executive Order 20-12 “Stay Home, Save Lives,” the Oregon State Police is offering guidance.
Is this martial law?
No, not even close. There are no curfews and a person’s movements are not restricted under the Governor’s Executive Order. While details are offered in the order relating to social distancing, specific business closures and non-essential social gatherings- Oregonian’s movements are generally unrestricted.
Do I need documentation from my employer deeming me essential?
No. The Governor’s Executive Order closes certain businesses, outlined in section (2). These businesses reflect operations that would make close contact difficult or impossible to avoid. Officers are not asking or looking for any type of special paperwork from your employer.
Do I need a special placard on my car, when going to work or if I drive for work?
No. There is no special documentation or placards for people going to work or permitted activities.
Will I be pulled over for driving on the highway?
Not for violation of the Governor’s Executive Order, which specifically outlines efforts to avoid large gatherings- not restrict the movement of Oregonians. If, however, you are committing a traffic violation or crime that would be enforced independent of the order, you may be stopped, like any other day.
Are the state lines closed and are there roadblocks?
No, traffic is moving freely within Oregon and our border states. There are no roadblocks or restrictions of vehicle movement. Washington State is operating under a similar executive order from their Governor, so Oregonians should be aware of these provisions when traveling in their state.
If my business is closed, can I still go to work if my employer makes me? Won’t I be arrested?
While the order prohibits the public from congregating at a closed business, the employer may still have work to do on site. As long as employees are not conducting business that is prohibited by the Executive Order, it is okay to still be at the worksite. No “passes” or paperwork is required.
Are rest areas open?
Yes, generally. Some rest areas are connected to parks, which are currently closed to comply with the Executive Order.
Are police arresting or ticketing people in public or in violation of the Governor’s Executive Order?
People that violate the Governor’s Order in an Emergency Declaration could be arrested or cited, which is a C Misdemeanor- the lowest level of criminal conduct designation. All Oregon law enforcement are united on the premise that police action is extremely undesirable and we hope to educate Oregonians if congregating in violation of the Governor’s Order. Citation or arrest would be an extreme last resort if a person failed to comply with the lawful direction of a police officer.
What about my kids that may congregate in a place without my permission, like a skate park?
Police know our children don’t often take their parent’s advice and may ignore direction when away. Like adults found to be congregating in a location, officers will likely approach the youths and educate them on the order. Citations and arrest are extremely unlikely, reserved for only the most extreme circumstances.
Can I still go hiking and fishing?
Yes. Oregonians can still recreate outdoors, if their recreational activity involves non-contact with others and they can maintain appropriate social distancing- which is defined as 6 feet or more from others. Oregonians and visitors to our state should be aware most campgrounds and boat ramps are closed, so you should research your plans before recreating.
Should I call 911 if I see people congregating?
No. The level of this violation is not for reporting police, fire or medical emergencies through 911. People may choose to self-educate their fellow Oregonians or if a large gathering is noted, they may call their respective police agency’s non-emergency number.

Benton County Sheriff's Office
On Thursday night, December 12, 2019, the Philomath High School was the target of a potential attack communicated on social media.
A student’s Facebook account was hacked and used to distribute a threat toward their school.
At 2:00 am this morning our Computer Forensics Detective determined that the student’s Facebook account was indeed hacked. An IP address was traced to Colorado. Authorities in Colorado made contact with a 16-year-old male, who hacked the Facebook account and sent the threatening message. The individual admitted hacking the account and sending out the threatening message. The reason was to ‘troll’ the account on Friday, the 13th.
Benton County Sheriff’s Office and Philomath Police have confirmed that the threat toward PHS is a hoax.
School is open today and Philomath Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office are providing extra presence this morning.
The Philomath High School Principal has assured the parents and students that there is no threat toward the school. “It is unfortunate that such an event has touched our community,” Mike Bussard stated. “Rest assured our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community at large.”
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office takes these threats seriously and called in extra resources to resolve the issue quickly.
