🇺🇸 U.S. History Came to Life at Gavilan Peak! 🇺🇸
Our students had some incredible opportunities to bring history out of the textbook and into the classroom this week!
Miss Robbin and Miss Sheri visited our fifth graders to teach them about the United States Flag Code and shared a fascinating timeline showing how the words and hand gestures of the Pledge of Allegiance have changed throughout U.S. history.
Then, in honor of Constitution Day on September 17, Rev. Dr. Marc Paquette shared his knowledge with our fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth grade students. They learned about the purpose and structure of the U.S. Constitution, including the Articles, the Bill of Rights, and state constitutions.
To commemorate the occasion, each fifth grader received a copy of the Gavilan Peak Fifth Grade Constitution and added their own “John Hancock” in cursive—using black ink and a quill feather pen! 🪶 By signing, students pledged their commitment to their classroom community, learning from history, and living out our school motto:
Connect. Commit. Achieve.
Because Every Moment Matters. ❤️🖤💛
A huge thank you to Miss Robbin, Miss Sheri, and Rev. Dr. Marc Paquette for sharing their time and expertise and making U.S. history meaningful and memorable for our GP Firebirds! 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙 DVUSD
