This world of Zoom meetings and video calls is definitely a source of stress for those in the deaf and hard of hearing community. I recently saw a situation where a college professor was chastising a student for not paying attention. The student however is hard of hearing and was using an interpreter to participate in class. This may seem like an extreme example, but it is something our community faces on a regular basis. A little understanding and accommodation can go a long way.

A tenure-track professor at a California community college is on leave and under investigation after video of him speaking critically to a hard-of-hearing student during an online class made the rounds on social media.

St. Paddy's Day is part of my husband's heritage and we have traveled to Ireland MANY TIMES (10-12 times). Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!

33 years ago, as a college senior I was part of the Deaf President Now movement at Gallaudet University. It was an important moment for us in the Deaf community, something I can remember very clearly to this day.

Are you claiming your place in history? It’s Deaf Women’s Herstory month, and I have to think back to the positive influences in the deaf community that have contributed to my personal story. I believe in communication and accessibility as a fundamental human right. That is certainly true as we continue to face COVID-19. Today on behalf of the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing I joined with other state disability advocates to highlight ongoing concerns about the state's rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations. We have serious concerns that the process does not provide for communication accommodation and is not inclusive of many high-risk groups. I just finished filming a segment with for tonight’s Horizon on the recent addition of ASL interpreters at all news briefings for the Biden administration. It is expected to air at 5 and 10 p.m. tonight. I appreciate them for having me as part of the show.
