The chef lineup for our inaugural Harmony Gala drew heavily on Arizona’s nationally recognized culinary talent, including a culinary team from our Cuisine Sponsor, Desert Diamond Casino’s signature dining program of the Tohono O’odham Nation. Led by Executive Chef Belal Rajab, with a cross-cultural and familial approach, this Culinary team offered Sonoran and O’odham‑inspired flavors in approachable contemporary menus. We thank Desert Diamond’s culinary team for supporting the Harmony Gala.

We can’t wait to share more details on the upcoming Harmony Gala on April 3, 2027!

Here is a look at a photo from the museum's archives!

This negative was donated to SVM by the grandson of the first City Archaeologist Odd Halseth. It was taken in the Verde River in 1932. This monsoon season remember to “Turn Around Don’t Drown”

Sometimes the animals on site surprise SVM’s staff with how close they can get to the public buildings. Today we couldn’t agree whether a hawk or falcon visited this morning. Can anyone identify our sharp taloned friend?

In the Sonoran Desert, birds such as woodpeckers and cactus wrens are known to nest inside of saguaros. When these animals carve out cavities inside of a saguaro, the cactus responds by forming hard tissue that functions as a scar or callus. Then, when a saguaro dies, the scar tissue also known as a saguaro boot remains. Swipe through the photos to see how a saguaro boot forms!

Here’s a peek at our new coffee station in the museum staff’s lounge. The construction and installation of this masterpiece is all thanks to our gifted Cultural Resources Ranger Brian!

Brian collected the spare wood, designed the construction, built and stained the frame, and even embellished the legs with saguaro ribs all himself!
