Training leaders. Strengthening the force.

National guard soldiers with the 48th Ordnance Group strengthened their operational capabilities and force readiness during the Team Leader Training Academy in Flagstaff.

Across nine practical lanes, team leaders experienced comprehensive real-world scenarios to advance, refine, and complete their Team Leader Validation. The lanes evaluated soldiers across a diverse set of EOD skills while challenging their teamwork and leadership.

In emergency management, clear data and real-time situational awareness are everything. DEMA’s Situation Unit works behind the scenes to turn complex incident data into clear, actionable intelligence for leadership and field responders!

Operating within the Planning functional area, this high-tech team maintains the crisis information systems, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), business intelligence tools, and custom web applications that power DEMA’s everyday operations.

⚡ What the Situation Unit Does During an Emergency:
📡 Collects & Disseminates Intelligence: Gathers, organizes, and analyzes live incident data from multiple agencies to keep response teams informed.

🗺️ Builds Maps & Visuals: Creates charts, graphs, and detailed GIS maps to display movement, hazard growth, and ongoing mitigation activities.

🔮 Forecasts & Projections: Generates graphical and numerical predictions to establish and maintain a unified Common Operating Picture (COP) across all responding partners.

🔥 Specialized Wildland Support: Led by the Situation Unit Leader (SITL), the team manages fire behavior analysis, infrared interpretation, and fire weather inputs for wildland fire incidents—supervising key roles like Field Observers and GIS Specialists.

From mapping hazards in real-time to forecasting incident trends, the Situation Unit delivers the operational picture needed to make smart, life-saving decisions! 🏢✨

Coconino County received a Declaration of Economic Injury from the Small Business Administration (SBA) which opens the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program to businesses impacted by the Pocket Fire.

The EIDL program provides 30-year loans with an interest rate as low as four percent. Principal and interest payments are not required in the first year of the loan to help businesses survive the loss of tourism. The program is available to all businesses in Coconino County and Yavapai County, as well as neighboring Gila, La Paz, Maricopa, Mohave and Navajo counties, San Juan and Kane counties in Utah and Tribal Nations.

In person SBA assistance is available in two locations. Walk-ins are welcome, and in-person appointments can be scheduled in advance at appointment.sba.gov.

📍 soldiers of the 1-158th Infantry Regiment conduct the dry run phase of their trench warfare exercise. With repetition, the dry runs allow them to build the trust and communication necessary to safely and successfully execute the live fire phase of the exercise.
