On Friday, surrounded by hundreds of his teammates, Senior Airman Roger Fortson’s family laid him to rest in Atlanta, Georgia. Today, members of the Air Force Special Operations community gathered for a memorial service held by the 1st Special Operations Wing, but the loss of this wingman has had a far wider-reaching impact, touching Airmen across the force. We grieve alongside his family, friends, and fellow Air Commandos, as we honor his strength, courage, and commitment to our Nation. His dedication to service will not be forgotten.

Today is National Medal of Honor Day, we are forever grateful to Medal of Honor recipients.

On June 28, 2005, LT. Michael P. Murphy valiantly gave his life in order to save the lives of his fellow SEALs.

His actions and sacrifice would lead him to posthumously receive our nation’s highest military award, the Medal of Honor. 🇺🇸⚓️🇺🇸⚓️
