Steven Ugol shows what Disability Pride Month is all about: hard work, joy, and living life on your own terms. As a STABLE account holder through AZ ABLE, Steven saves and invest for the things that help him stay independent, from Waymo rides to monthly community dances and access to hearing aids that keep him connected.

Through the ABLE to Work Act, eligible employed beneficiaries can contribute and save more in their AZ ABLE accounts. His mom, Char, says it best: “These aren’t just purchases, they are investments in his independence.“

During Disability Pride Month, we celebrate the many individuals with disabilities who are living self directed, healthy and meaningful lives – including Jeremy. At 29, he works at Chick‑fil‑A and with the Phoenix Suns as a greeter, travels, swims, dances, and loves going out with friends.

The DES Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) empowers and supports people with developmental disabilities, like Jeremy. Since childhood, DDD has supported Jeremy’s growth through habilitation, attendant care, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and music therapy. These supports helped him build confidence, independence, and the skills he uses every day.

“Jeremy has learned so much from his therapists and direct care workers,” his mother, Kym, shared. “He really enjoys his jobs and the people he works with!”

Jeremy also gives back to his community. At church, he leads music in the children’s Sunday school, a role he loves and takes pride in.

Each year, DDD supports more than 64,000 Arizonans. Learn more about how DDD may be able to help you or your family thrive - https://des.az.gov/ddd
