Phoenixville Fire Department Combination career and volunteer fire department located in Phoenixville, Chester County, PA. Founded in 1874. Chester County Station #65.

The Phoenixville Fire Department is a multi-service department that provides fire and rescue services to Phoenixville Borough and surrounding communities. The Department is staffed by a combination of career and volunteer firefighters operating out of the Phoenix Hose, Hook & Ladder Co., No1 on Church Street. The Phoenix Hose, Hook & Ladder Co. was established in 1874 and is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization with a Board of Directors made up of Firefighters and Community representatives. All fundraising and administrative functions are performed by volunteers. The Department is always looking for volunteers from our Community to help as Firefighters, Fire Police or with Administration, Fundraising and Public Relations. The Department is funded from a mixture of tax monies, grants and equipment from Local, County, State and Federal government, and donations from our Community.

Live Fire Training

Recently, our firefighters participated in live fire training at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus. Our personnel practiced extinguishing structure fires as well as locating & removing people who may be trapped inside. Operating in a training center burn building is usually the only opportunity firefighters have to practice with actual fire and smoke conditions. Thank you to the instructors and staff of the fire academy.

Afternoon House Fire in the East End

On Monday 10/5 at 4:37 PM, our department and first-alarm mutual aid companies were alerted for a house fire on Kenalcon Drive in the borough. The caller reported a stove fire with an evacuation in progress.

Ladder, Chief, Engine, Utility 65-2, and MICU 65-1 responded to the incident. Chief 68 arrived on location to report fire showing from the front window on the end unit of a multi-unit single story building. Ladder 65 was the first arriving apparatus on scene, taking the role of first-in engine. The fire was able to be controlled with one hose line. Mutual aid crews were sent to the roof to conduct vertical ventilation. Within three minutes of firefighters arriving, command reported the bulk of the fire was knocked down. The fire was placed "under control" within another 15 minutes.

Two adult residents escaped safely and were evaluated on-scene by EMS. The residents were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal’s Office, but believed to be accidental in nature. Crews cleared the scene in two hours.

The Phoenixville Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to support Fire Prevention Week, October 4–10, 2026. This year’s FPW theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” focuses on the simple steps people can take to recharge safely. Safe charging means making smart choices every time you plug in.

Many devices used in our daily lives - phones, tablets, laptops, tools, toys, e-bikes, and scooters—run on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which store a lot of energy in a small space. If they are damaged or charged the wrong way, they can overheat, start a fire, or even explode.

“The way you charge your lithium-ion battery devices can make a difference in helping prevent home fires,” said Eamon Brazunas, Chief of Fire and Emergency Services. “It comes down to using simple habits each time you plug in.”

• Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.
• Charge devices on a table, desk, or other hard, flat surface. Do not charge them on beds, couches, or under pillows. Devices and chargers produce heat during normal charging. Soft surfaces can trap heat and block airflow, which can cause the battery to overheat.
• Stop using your device if it feels very hot, starts to swell, is smoking, or has a strange smell. These are warning signs that the battery may be damaged or failing.
• Unplug your device when it is fully charged. Do not leave it plugged in longer than needed. Leaving a device plugged in too long can increase heat and stress on the battery.
• Charge larger items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside and away from exits. These batteries are larger and store more energy. If they fail, fires can grow quickly and spread.
• When on a plane, keep your device where you can see it while charging. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments. Do not charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to respond quickly.

The Phoenixville Fire Department will be visiting schools and businesses in the Borough of Phoenixville, throughout the month, to reinforce these messages.

Church Street School Bell Dedicated in Reeves Park

The original bell of the Church Street School and later Phoenix Hose, Hook and Ladder Co, No1, is now prominently displayed in Reeves Park. A dedication ceremony, led by Mayor Peter Urscheler, was held last week. This bell was cast in 1859 for the newly-constructed Church Street School - the first public school in Phoenixville. After about a decade, the bell developed a crack which significantly affected the tone. The bell was replaced, and after some time in storage, the school district donated the bell to the newly-formed Phoenix Hose, Hook & Ladder Co., of the Phoenixville Fire Department.

Our first fire station, where this donated bell was mounted, was located on North Main Street as an annex to the borough's Market House. This bell was used for only a few years before a new, larger bell was purchased by the fire company. Our company records indicate, that in addition to sounding the bell for fires, it was also rung for holidays and other events in town. Most notably, the bell was rung annually at midnight on Independence Day. On July 4th, 1874, it was recorded that the bell tolled for an entire hour beginning at midnight.

Cheers to CVC: Battle of the Badges is Tomorrow!

The Crime Victims' Center of Chester County, Inc. is holding their 3rd "Annual Battle of the Badges" fundraiser tomorrow.

Fire Chiefs and Police Chiefs from across Chester County will be battling as bartenders to see who can raise the most money for our crime victims center. Our own Phoenixville Fire Chief, Eamon Brazunas is participating in the competition to claim the title of "Best Chief Bartender of Chester County." In total, 16 chiefs are competing in this fierce but friendly competition. The Chief who earns the most tips, wins.

This event runs until 8 PM. Tickets are required if attending in-person. If you cannot attend in-person, tips made be made using the QR codes in the attached flyers or visiting the links in the comments.
