UPT Police The Upper Providence Township (UPT), Montgomery County, Department of Fire and Emergency Services serves Upper Providence Township (Montgomery County, PA). The Upper Providence Township Department of Fire and Emergency Serv

ices (DFES) serves the Township 24 hours a day, seven days a week with a combination fire department made up of a blend of municipal career firefighters and volunteer firefighters. Two EMS agencies provide emergency medical response in the Township and are supported by a quick response (QRS) service from the DFES.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Russell “Rusty” Layre on successfully completing the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy’s 48-hour Suppression Instructor Development (ZFID) Program!

This program certifies instructors to serve as lead instructors in the State’s suppression track courses, including entry-level firefighter training.

Our career firefighters continue to learn, train, and push themselves to become even better firefighters and instructors.

Rusty’s commitment to professional development not only strengthens our department, but also helps shape the next generation of firefighters—enhancing the level of service we provide to the communities we proudly protect.

From PennDOT: Nighttime milling and paving will continue this week on US 422 in Limerick and Upper Providence Townships. Expect lane closures through September 3rd: EB from 7 PM–5 AM and WB from 8 PM–6 AM between Royersford Rd and Troutman Rd. Drivers should plan for delays; work is weather dependent.

If you have a KH158 “4‑in‑1” Plug‑In Natural Gas & Carbon Monoxide Detector, please STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that these detectors may fail to alert you to deadly carbon monoxide. The manufacturer has not agreed to a recall.

CPSC has received 91 reports of these units failing during gas or CO leaks. If you own one, dispose of it right away and replace it with a working CO detector that meets the UL 2034 safety standard.

On Monday, our firefighters and officers led and supervised a joint training alongside five neighboring fire companies at the Skippack Fire Company Training Facility, focusing on Fire Attack, Ground Ladders, RIT (Rapid Intervention Team), Search, and VEIS (Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search) — a targeted, room‑specific rescue tactic.

Multiple evolutions ensured every firefighter had hands‑on reps.

Cross‑training with our mutual aid partners is essential, and we appreciate everyone who participated:

At 9:56 pm on Monday, Squad 68 (C Platoon), Royersford Fire Department Station 98, Limerick Fire Department Tanker 51, Perkiomen Township Fire Company Tanker 66, Phoenixville Fire Department Rescue 65, and Liberty Fire Co., Spring City Squad 63 were dispatched to the 900 block of 2nd Avenue for a reported train crash. Norfolk Southern advised that a train had struck a vehicle, which was smoking.

The unoccupied vehicle was hit at the Arch Street crossing in Royersford Borough and pushed eastbound along the tracks to the area of Gay Street in Upper Providence Township (near the 600 block of 2nd Avenue). No injuries were reported.

Superior Towing removed the vehicle from the tracks at 11:31 p.m. The scene was turned over to police and Norfolk Southern personnel. Station 68 became available at 11:34 pm.

At 8:11 AM Monday, Station 68 and Royersford Fire Department's Engine 98 were dispatched to US RT 422 EB near mile marker 183.3 (Trappe/Royersford Exit) for a reported vehicle fire. PA State Police also responded.

Callers reported a tractor‑trailer pulled to the shoulder with a rear tire on fire and smoke coming from under the cab.

Squad 68 (C Platoon) crew used the booster line to cool down the brakes and mitigate the hazard.

All units were made available at 8:31 AM.

Nighttime milling and paving will continue next week (8/23 through 8/27) on U.S. 422 in Montgomery County as part of PennDOT’s $6.2 million resurfacing project.

Lane closures will be in place August 23–27 on both eastbound (7pm-5am) and westbound (8pm -6am) U.S. 422 between Royersford Road and Troutman Road in Limerick and Upper Providence Townships.

Expect overnight delays and plan extra travel time.

Work includes milling, new pavement, updated markings, rumble strips, and repairs, weather permitting.
