Chief Mitchell helped to build the fire service that serves and protects the City of Picayune that you see today…He was a mentor and example to so many and will truly be missed…Our prayers go out to the Mitchell family

The City of Picayune extends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Retired Fire Chief Jackie L. Mitchell, who passed away on December 16, 2025. Mr. Mitchell dedicated a long and distinguished career to fire service in our community, serving as Assistant Chief and then as Fire Chief from 1991 to 2002. His leadership and commitment helped shape the department and strengthen public safety for our citizens.

On behalf of the Mayor, City Council, City Administration, and all city employees, we honor Chief Mitchell’s legacy of service, courage, and dedication. His contributions to our city will not be forgotten, and his impact on the Picayune Fire Department and the families it serves will endure.
