A big thank you to all the volunteers, more than shown here, who came out today to support the KPCB quarterly litter pick-up, along the Doodle Trail.

Groups of volunteers covered the Doodle Trail from both the Easley and Pickens trailheads, cleaning up trash and other debris, making the trail safer, cleaner and better for all.

Also, a big shout out to Pickens City and County leadership and personnel for being so supportive of our efforts today, even joining in the clean up. We appreciate you!

Stay tuned for more opportunities to Keep Pickens County Beautiful!

If you travel Highway 135 often, you’ve probably spotted Joel Black on occasion conducting his daily litter sweep in an effort to Keep Pickens County Beautiful. He also recently spent time cleaning Adger Road in Easley. He wants our county to be the best it can be, and he recognizes he has a part to play by picking up litter when he sees it and can safely do so. He hopes that by sharing his contribution, others will be inspired to keep Pickens County beautiful too. In addition to litter removal, we can all do our part by securing loads when hauling to a recycle center, being mindful of the potential for loose debris to become litter and avoiding intentionally littering.

Thank you, Mr. Black, for being a great example in our community!

If you're looking for a new ornamental tree, consider planting a native Eastern Redbud or Dogwood tree instead of a Bradford Pear tree. Bradford Pear trees are invasive in South Carolina, and the sales of new Bradford Pears are set to be banned in SC starting in 2024. Their weak branch structure leads to dangerous snaps, they outcompete native plans, have a relatively short lifespan, and also have a pungent odor.

Other good alternatives include Downy Serviceberry, American Witch Hazel, and Crepe Myrtles.
