📢Reminder: Upcoming ATAX workshops next week

The Pickens County Accommodations Tax Committee will be hosting a workshop on Monday, October 26, at 10 a.m. And Thursday, October 29, at 2 p.m. in the Main Conference Room at the Pickens County Administration Building. The workshop will cover eligible applicants, eligible expenses and an overview of the application process & requirements. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the workshop.

On Monday, October 19, the Administration Building will host both early voting for the Statewide General Election and a County Council meeting with a Public Hearing. Because these activities will take place simultaneously, temporary Administration Building access changes will be implemented to support public access, safety and building security.

Early Voting:
As previously communicated by Voter Registration and Elections, early voting begins Monday, October 19, and will be available from 8:30am to 6:00pm. The exterior entrance doors near Voters, Veterans, and Communications will remain open to the public until early voting concludes at 6:00pm.

County Council Meeting:
County Council will hold a public hearing in Council Chambers as part of its mid-month meeting on Monday, October 19, beginning at 6:30pm. The main entrance doors at the Atrium will reopen at 6:00pm.

Overflow seating will be available outside Building Codes and the Small Business Support Center, with a livestream of the public hearing provided.

Interior Building Access:
To maintain building security and allow separation of the two public activities, the interior hallway door between Voters/Veterans/Communications and Building Codes/Planning/Stormwater will close at 5:00pm.

All other exterior doors in the building will remain on the normal schedule of 8:00am to 5:00pm.

According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Isaias is approaching the Gulf Coast and is expected to make landfall late Friday or early Saturday morning, bringing heavy rainfall to much of the Southeast this weekend. Pickens County Emergency Management is closely monitoring the storm and its potential impact in Pickens County, and they are advising the public to closely monitor trusted news sources for weather updates throughout the weekend. Additionally, here are some things you can do now to prepare for severe weather and power outages:

-Ensure your cell phone, medical devices and backup batteries remain fully charged
-Prepare an emergency kit with things you might need in the event of an outage (e.g. flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food)
-If using a generator becomes necessary, only use it outdoors and away from windows and doors
-Stay home if you can during severe weather. If travel is unavoidable, use extreme caution and give yourself extra time to arrive at your destination.

At this time, Pickens County Emergency Management remains at OPCON 3 (normal daily operations). If there are any additional updates, we will provide them on social media and at PickensCountySC.gov.

Our Employee Appreciation Day yesterday was a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the dedicated employees who serve our community every day.
