Field Day 2023
Saturday - Sunday 24-25 June 2023
Pickens County Fire Training Center
2145 Old Liberty Road
Easley, SC
(near the county landfill)
Setup will begin at the site at approximately 11:00 on Saturday Morning. The Field Day operating period begains at 1800 UTC (2pm local) on Saturday and ends no later than 2059 UTZ (4:59 pm local) on Sunday.
This will be a 24-hour operation. Open to anyone that has any interest in HAM radio and emergency two way communications.
Objectives:
(1) Gain experience settup up and operating the equipment in the Pickens County Communications Group's (PCCG) trailer.
(2) Practice HF & VHF Communications skills in multiple modes including Voice, Data (including Winlink & VarAC), and CW.
(3) Conduct communications operations for 24 hours.
(4) Log all contacts made in each mode and forward to ARRL.
(5) HAVE FUN & LEARN.

A packet digipeater was installed at Caesars Head last month on 145.530 Mhz. Our thanks to W4ATP Tom Poole, N4DDS Harry Davis and WR4XM Mandell Rigdon in the hard work to make this possible with the packet digipeater up at Sassafras Mtn, Six Mile Mtn, and Glassy Mtn that is connected to the internet for Winlink. All four digipeaters are on 145.530 Mhz and was installed from the members of the Pickens County Communications Group

Just put on or install on the new 224.400 repeater on Glassy Mt Echolink WX4PG-L and Allstar 40643 nodes Wednesday evening.
The nodes can be linked to the 442.400 repeater. Thanks to Richard Donald N4LRD for his hard work getting this done.

Saturday morning September 26, the new 220 mhz Spectra repeater, on Caesars Head was put on an Arcom RC210 controller. It has now the capability of linking to the 442.400 repeater if needed and the WARNS system for skywarn WX warnings. The repeater has been on the internal controller for a while since the repeater was installed. Also new antennas was installed on Echolink node 4031, Allstar node 40641, and Radio Reference Saturday evening.

Echolink 4031 and Allstar node 40642 was installed on the WX4PG repeater 443.450 last night, Our thanks to Richard Donald N4LRD in getting this installed. Also, a new upgrade on the 224.400 repeater on Glassy Mt replacing a Icom with a Spectra repeater today, Sunday September 6, 2020.

Pickens County Communications Group upgraded to 2 Motorola MTR2000 VHF and UHF repeaters on Glassy Mt. Saturday June 13, 2020. 147.195 Mhz and 443.450 Mhz. These 2 repeaters are linked together for our nets on every 2nd, third, 4th, and 5th Tuesday nights at 8:00pm. The 147.195 repeater will still be linked up to the WARNS system only when the NWS sends out a WX warning for Pickens County and the upstate NWS warning area.
Thanks to Ronald Lewis K4RDL, Tom Poole W4ATP, Thomas Phillips N4ARS, Richard Donald, N4LRD, and Mandell Rigdon WR4XM for their hard work in installing the systems. All of our communications have moved to Glassy Mt, The 442.400 on Caesars Head Mt. will be our back up repeater and used when more coverage is needed in the county, although both 147.195 and 443.450 has great coverage.
The PL tone TX and RX for 147.195 is 141.3 Hz and 443.450 is 110.9 Hz.

Our Weekly net will be held on the VHF and UHF repeater linked system tomarrow night at 8:00pm Tuesday, March 31,2020. The purpose of our nets are for news related to Pickens Communications Group and Pickens County Emergency Management Agency and to test the repeater linking system.
We have installed a new repeater controller that will link the 220 Mhz repeater into the system for our nets. Also the 220 Repeater now respond to the WARNS repeater system when severe weather is in our area.
We will not be meeting at the Pickens County EOC next Tuesday April 7, 2020 until future notice because of the virus, instead we will be meeting on the radio at 7:00 pm, We will link up the system by remote,

The Pickens County Communications Group meeting at the EOC on Tuesday April 7, 2020 has been cancelled until further notice. We will met on the net at 7:00pm on the linked repeaters 147.195 and 442.400 mhz. on April 7,2020.
