Last night’s training was attended by 28 firefighters and medics. Of those, 18 medics participated in a class on cardiac emergencies and chest trauma. Afterward, they rotated through stations to practice CPR, patient assessment, and chest trauma response. The class was led by rescue captains Mary Rodrigue and Laurie Cavalier.
At the same time, 10 firefighters took part in a drafting and pump operations class, where they received instruction on drafting water from a source.
Thank you to everyone who attended these training sessions to strengthen your skills and help us respond more effectively to emergencies.

The members of Pierre Part Fire Dept would like to thank Teddy Mabile, Alrina Ponville and Joni Aucoin for providing supper for our membership meeting Monday night. The food was delicious and the deserts were amazing

At tonight’s annual Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus banquet honoring firefighters, law enforcement officers, and military veterans, Gerald “Pachon” Fryou of Pierre Part Fire was named Fireman of the Year. Gerald has served as a volunteer firefighter for 24 years and has held every officer rank, including lieutenant, captain, and assistant chief. He is also an Emergency Medical Technician. In 2025, he completed 95 hours of training and responded to 282 calls.
Chief Don Breaux presented him with the award in recognition of his years of service and dedication to the department.

Thank you to the volunteers from the Pierre Part Fire and Rescue who showed up to make sure we were safe and sound after lightning hit campus, shaking the building and setting off the fire alarm. Thankfully, there was no damage! 🤍💚🐾🚒

Each year, June 1–7 is recognized as National CPR and AED Awareness Week, highlighting the importance of learning CPR and how to use an AED to help save lives.

❗About 70 percent of cardiac arrests outside hospitals happen at home. If you have to administer CPR, it will likely be to someone you love, like a parent, spouse, or child.

🫀Immediate CPR can significantly increase the chance of survival. Everyone, everywhere can be prepared and empowered to become a vital link in the chain of survival and provide CPR. No matter where your summer plans take you, make sure you’re prepared and confident to save a life if necessary.

Hands-Only CPR is as effective in the first few minutes as conventional CPR for cardiac arrest at home, at work or in public. It has just two steps, performed in this order:
📱Call 911 immediately.
👐🏽Push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the beat of a song that has 100 to 120 beats per minute.

⚡AEDs are portable devices that analyze the heart's rhythm and deliver an electrical shock to restore a normal heartbeat for someone in sudden cardiac arrest. Combined with CPR, it can greatly increase a person’s chances of survival following a cardiac event.

AEDs are located in many buildings throughout communities, providing vital access in the event one is needed. Once turned on, an AED device delivers audible instructions on how to apply and administer.
