Black Lives Matters calls us at the South Dakota Discovery Center to reflect deeply on racism and colonialism. On June 10 we join thousands of other STEM professionals around the world to #ShutDownSTEM.
We will:
- Work on a framework to address equity and inclusion in STEM education through our PD work, in our exhibit hall and in our outreach to children throughout the state.
- Begin a professional learning community for staff that explores issues of white privilege, racism and colonialism in STEM education.

You are a philanthropist, you can make a difference!

Give $20 today for a $20,000 matching grant from the South Dakota Community Foundation. Every dollar goes towards equity in education and supports the Discovery Center’s mission to provide South Dakotans science opportunities that spark exploration and new discovery at every age level.

The reality is that many kids in South Dakota have economic barriers to the scientific and technological knowledge that will help them become successful adults in careers that support the state’s economy.
Through qualified staff, the South Dakota Discovery Center supports students and their teachers, providing access to real-world STEM education and helping young people overcome obstacles to achieve their potential.

Donate $20 today, to build our endowment, helping the South Dakota Discovery Center create a better future for our kids.

I would like to say a quick thank you to all the people who donated to our local area FIRST LEGO League robotics community on Saturday as part of Engineer’s Day. A BIG thank you to the Modern Woodmen who are matching the funds we raised at our fundraiser. Special thank you notes go to the South Dakota Discovery Center and the Central South Dakota Engineering Society (especially Andy their leader). It was delightful to visit with all the youth and adults on Saturday that stopped by our robotics area upstairs and our robot games table down in the exhibit hall. Thanks to my fellow coaches and young engineers who volunteered. Our teams are the Techno Kids, Mindstorm Masters, Lego Kraken Force, and CSDR or Central South Dakota Robotics. If I forgot someone please fell free to leave a comment.
