Drew Eskins has been selected as the May Employee of the Month for the South Dakota Human Services Center in Yankton.

Eskins, a Building Maintenance Specialist – Electronics and Controls, has been a member of the HSC team since 2019. He took a brief break in 2021 to explore collegiate teaching within his field before returning to his role.

Originally from Crofton, Nebraska, Eskins brings both technical skill and a problem solving mindset to his work. His nominator highlighted his commitment to HSC. “He consistently goes above and beyond with his day to day responsibilities, as well as coming up with solutions to obstacles within patient care areas. His knowledge and enthusiasm to create and develop solutions to electronic controls and camera technology is irreplaceable.”

When asked what he enjoys most about his job, Eskins shared that he values the trust placed in his position. “If there’s something existential for the facility happening at 3 am, people know they can depend on me to answer their call and resolve the problem quickly and efficiently,” he said. He also expressed appreciation for his department and the colleagues he works with every day.

Eskins’s wife, Megan, also works at HSC in the Activities Department. They have two children, Skylar and Wayne. Outside of work, Eskins leads an active life. He has summitted Cloud Peak, Bomber Mountain, and Mitchell Peak, with plans to take on Medicine Bow Peak later this year. He runs daily and has completed the Baltic Marathon. Eskins is also an avid golfer and gardener. His gardening skills benefit the community, as he donates produce each year to the HSC Fall Harvest. Recently, he has taken up 3D printing and is gradually teaching himself Spanish.
