We're excited to share an update on Agtegra's new Feed Mill in Faulkton, South Dakota! Construction continues to move forward this summer, with more growth on the horizon as Agtegra prepares to begin their liquid fertilizer expansion this Fall.

The SD GOED is proud to support this project through the Reinvestment Payment Program to assist Agtegra’s ongoing expansion efforts. We appreciate the strong partnership and collaboration with the Agtegra team and look forward to seeing this project continue to take shape.

Last week’s Dakotafest brought together thousands of farmers, ranchers, and agribusiness professionals from across the Midwest to learn, share, and connect with partners across the industry.

The three‑day event featured more than 400 exhibitors showcasing new agricultural equipment, technology, products, and services. Attendees also had the chance to participate in educational sessions, forums, hands‑on demonstrations, and other programming designed to support innovation and collaboration.

We appreciate the opportunity to strengthen relationships with businesses, community leaders, and industry partners that support continued economic growth across South Dakota!

It was a great day in Mitchell for a conversation about the future of South Dakota agriculture.

GOED’s Curtis Egan moderated a roundtable with Gov. Larry Rhoden, USDA Under Secretary Luke Lindberg and USDA Deputy Under Secretary Dr. Lauren Stump, alongside South Dakota producers and commodity leaders from across the state.

Yesterday, at DakotaFest, Governor Rhoden expanded on how the recent Future Fund grant to the city of Mitchell will support the creation of Mitchell’s 18+ acre industrial and business park. This grant will help finance the installation of utilities and other public infrastructure needed to complete the project.

Governor Rhoden and Mike Lauritsen, CEO of Mitchell Area Development Corporation and Chamber of Commerce, emphasized how the investment ensures Mitchell has development-ready sites that will attract new businesses, create quality jobs, and support long-term economic growth.

It was a fantastic day at South Dakota Trade’s sixth annual Midwest Agricultural Export Summit!

Commissioner Bill Even and Joe Fiala, Deputy Commissioner and Interim President & CEO of South Dakota Trade, shared meaningful insights on strengthening South Dakota’s global reach during the Trade Mission 101 session.

United States leaders, Ambassadors and Consul Generals representing Canada, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, and Taiwan also shared valuable perspectives on collaboration opportunities throughout the day, giving attendees a broader understanding of international partnerships, global market potential, and new opportunities for growth.

We look forward to next year’s summit as we continue advancing not only South Dakota’s role in international agricultural trade, but the entire Midwest region!

The South Dakota Board of Economic Development approved funding for three projects through the SD Works Program and South Dakota Jobs Program. The projects support business expansion, rural business succession, and advanced manufacturing, while creating and retaining jobs across South Dakota.

“In South Dakota, we continue to support businesses that are investing, growing, and creating opportunities for people across our state,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “These projects strengthen local communities, support good-paying jobs, and build a strong, diverse economy that is Open for Opportunity.”

Happy National Honey Day!

South Dakota ranks 3rd in the nation for honey‑producing bee colonies in 2025, with 205,000 colonies operating statewide. Producers generated 8.2 million pounds of honey, averaging 40 pounds per colony- placing South Dakota 4th in the United States for total honey output.

Today, we’re celebrating the hardworking producers whose important work supports South Dakota’s agricultural industry from pollinating the forage crops that feed our livestock to supporting rural jobs, small businesses, and the healthy ecosystems that benefit recreation and tourism.

The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering a new national initiative designed to strengthen the U.S. manufacturing base and support small firms addressing critical supply‑chain pinchpoints.

The Critical Suppliers Prize Competition will award up to $20 million in total prizes, with 4-6 winners receiving up to $6 million each to rapidly scale production capacity and deliver measurable impact.

Eligible small businesses working in advanced metals, advanced materials, or energy systems are encouraged to apply by August 28th:
