Gladys Pyle (1890–1989) was a trailblazing South Dakota Republican politician, suffragist, and educator known for being the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate without prior appointment (1938). She was the first female member of the South Dakota House (1923–1927), Secretary of State (1927–1931), and the first woman to nominate a presidential candidate at a national convention.

The Gladys Pyle Building at the State Fair proudly bears her name, and the SDGOP is currently fundraising to help maintain it. Today marks 37 years since her passing — what better way to honor her legacy than to contribute to keeping it alive:

Cen-Kota was recently awarded the Patriot Keepers Guild—honoring those who keep the flame burning.

By meeting (or exceeding) previous year’s membership total by March 1, Cen-Kota has demonstrated steadfast commitment, strong engagement, and a dedication to preserving the foundation of NFRW’s movement. Returning clubs like ours are the backbone of the National Federation of Republican Women, and our efforts ensure that the spirit of 1776 continues to shine brightly.
