When passing a vehicle on a two-lane highway, you are permitted to exceed the posted speed limit when certain conditions are met under SDCL 32-25-28.
You are only allowed to exceed the posted speed limit by 10 miles per hour and the vehicle you are passing must be traveling under the posted speed limit.

Seven members of the South Dakota Highway Patrol were recognized with Superintendent’s Performance Awards at the 14th Annual Highway Patrol Awards Ceremony. The awards honor exceptional performance, professionalism, and dedication across a variety of categories.

Trooper Blend Fetahi earned two awards, receiving recognition for both DUI Arrests and Moving Violations. Trooper Nathan Monger was honored for Criminal Apprehensions, while Trooper Jesse Holman received the award for Safety Talks. Trooper Cody Sellhorst was recognized for his work in enforcing seat belt laws (photo not available).

In the Motor Carrier Division, Port Manager Phil Lentz received the Safety Talks award. Master Inspector Loren Miller and Trooper Mychal Rydeen were jointly recognized for excellence in Vehicle Examination Reports.

Congratulations to each of these recipients for their outstanding performance and commitment to public safety. Their professionalism, dedication, and service reflect the high standards of the South Dakota Highway Patrol and help make South Dakota’s roads safer for everyone.
