At noon today, a bell will ring across Sevier County in remembrance of Dolly Parton our hometown girl whose heart, generosity and legacy reached far beyond these mountains.

Historic Courthouse Bell to Toll in Honor of Dolly Parton; County to Observe Moment of Silence at Noon

In honor of Dolly Parton and her extraordinary life and lasting contributions to the people of Sevier County, the 1896 bell atop the historic Sevier County Courthouse will ring a solemn toll today at noon (Wednesday, August 26).

The solemn tolling is being held by Sevier County, the Cities of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg, the Town of Pittman Center, and the Sevier County School System in conjunction with the Day of Mourning proclaimed in honor of Dolly Parton.

The courthouse bell will ring as a tribute to Dolly’s remarkable life, her deep connection to Sevier County, and the profound impact she has had on generations of people throughout the community and around the world.

In honor of Dolly attending and graduating from Sevier County High School, all schools across the county will observe a moment of silence at noon.

Residents and businesses across Sevier County are also asked to observe a moment of silence today at noon in remembrance of Dolly’s remarkable life and to keep her family, friends, and loved ones around the world in their thoughts and prayers.

The five-minute tolling of the 1896 bell will serve as a solemn tribute to Dolly Parton and a reminder of the lasting difference she made in the place she always called home.

City of Pigeon Forge Mourns the Loss of Dolly Parton

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. August 25, 2026- The City of Pigeon Forge joins people across Tennessee, the nation and the world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton, a beloved daughter of the Great Smoky Mountains and a cherished member of the Pigeon Forge community.

Dolly was far more than a world-renowned singer, songwriter, actress, entertainer and philanthropist. To the people of Pigeon Forge, she was one of our own.

For decades, Dolly's name and heart have been woven into the story of Pigeon Forge. Through Dollywood, the many businesses and attractions she helped bring to the community, and the countless ways she invested in the people of East Tennessee, Dolly helped shape Pigeon Forge into the community it is today.

But perhaps her greatest legacy is not measured in the success she achieved. It is measured in the lives she touched.

Dolly never forgot where she came from. Despite achieving worldwide fame, she remained deeply connected to her Tennessee roots and consistently used her success to give back. Her generosity, her commitment to children and literacy, her support of families and communities, and her genuine love for the people of this region have left an impact that will continue for generations.

“Today, Pigeon Forge has lost more than an icon. We have lost one of our own,” said City Manager David Wear, “Dolly loved these mountains, she loved this community, and she never forgot where she came from. Her generosity, her spirit and her belief in the people of East Tennessee have made an immeasurable difference. We are grateful for everything she gave to Pigeon Forge and to the world."

The City of Pigeon Forge extends its deepest condolences to Dolly's family, friends, loved ones, colleagues, fans and the many people whose lives she touched.

Her music will continue to be heard. Her stories will continue to be told. Her generosity will continue through the many lives she changed.

The City of Pigeon Forge is grateful for the life, love and legacy of Dolly Parton.

Throughout the month, departments from the City of Pigeon Forge have been visiting the library to read with the kids, share a few smiles, and build positive connections. 📚❤️
It’s a simple reminder that being a community helper is about more than a job, it’s about being there for the people we serve, including our youngest residents.

Water line work is being conducted on Teaster Lane in the area of Christmas Tree Lane and East Wears Valley Road, and residents in the area may be without water while the work is underway.
We understand how inconvenient a water interruption can be and appreciate your patience as crews work to complete the necessary repairs.

First Responder Softball
Pigeon Forge Fire and Police participated in the First Responder Softball League last night! ⚾️
Agencies from across the county come together every Wednesday night for some friendly competition, fun and fellowship.
Come out and support our first responders! Games are Wednesdays at 6:00 and 7:30 p.m. at Wear Farm Park and they’re free to attend!
