On Sunday, April 12th, 2026, 2 deputies went to 512 Edith Street in Corning to investigate illegal drug activity. When deputies came in contact with 55yr. old David Lee White he became argumentative with deputies over the terms that he had signed when sentenced. He had signed papers to allow searches by law enforcement at any time. Upon entering the residence, deputies found several illegal drug related items. They also found scales with a white powder substance on them. Mr. White was transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked in on the following charges. Possession of M**h or Co***ne W/Purpose to Deliver LT 2GM, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of SCH IV LT 4oz.

On Monday April 6th, 2026 the Sheriff's Dept. conducted a Suspended Imposition of Sentence Search at 90 County Road 324 Pollard, the residence of 64yr. old Michael R. Grissom. Mr. Grissom was showed his sentencing order paperwork, which stated he was subject to search at any time by law enforcement. Deputies conducted a search of Mr. Grissom where a clear baggy was found containing a white powder believed to be M**h. A small amount of Ma*****na was also found. When a search was conducted of his residence several items of Drug Paraphernalia were found, along with more M**h. Mr. Grissom was taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked in on the following charges. Possession of M**h or Co***ne With Purpose to Deliver LT 2GM, Possession of SCH VI With Purpose to deliver, Possession of SCH IV or V With Purpose to Deliver, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Friday April 3rd, 2026, at approximately 7:12 P.M. the Sheriff's Dept. received a 911 call from Greenway about a man pointing a gun at people. Deputies went to Clay Street in Greenway and made contact with the residents that had reportedly pointed the gun. When deputies came in contact with the man's wife, they asked where he was and they were informed he was in the house. Deputies advised for him to come out with his hands over his head. 67yr. old Steve Barczewski came out as instructed to the deputies. Deputies asked where the gun was and were told it was in the house. Mr. Barczewski's wife retrieved the gun for the deputies. Apparently, Mr. Barczewski became irritated at the kids riding dirt bikes and 4-wheelers in front of his house. Mr. Barczewski started throwing sticks at the kids and yelling at them. The grandparents of the children went to talk to Mr. Barczewski. When they were in the street 18yr. old Shyan Barczewski came out and apparently repeatedly pointed a pistol at one of the people in the street. Shyan Barczewski then handed the pistol to Steve Barczewski who pointed the gun at the grandfather of the children. He apparently threatened them verbally when he pointed the weapon at him. Deputies took Shyan and Steve Barczewski into custody. They were transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked in on the charge of Aggravated Assault.

On Friday April 3rd, 2026, at approximately 4:06 P.M. The Sheriff's Dept. received a 911 call about a dispute involving kids riding 4-wheelers and dirt bikes in Greenway. According to statements taken at the scene, the kids were driving down an alley then into a field road. Apparently 66yr. old Carolyn Jean Morris of Aubrey, Texas tried to get the child's attention by angling her vehicle toward the child to get his attention. According to the statement of the 12yr. old boy, the vehicle slightly bumped him, and he went in the ditch. Mrs. Morris was taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked in on the charge of Aggravated Assault.

On Monday March 30th, 2026, the Sheriff’s Dept. requested the charges for Joe Ray Dodd of Knobel be amended to 2nd Degree Murder. Joe Ray Dodd has been incarcerated at the Clay County Detention Center since March 15th. He had a Bond of $500,000.00 for 1st Degree Domestic Battery of a Family Member. Mr. Dodd’s Father Joe E. Dodd of Knobel passed away March 20th at the Med in Memphis. The Clay County Coroner received a preliminary autopsy report from the State Crime Lab. From this report the Sheriff’s Dept. made this request. District Judge Curtis Hitt found Probable Cause and set Mr. Dodd’s bond at $1.5 million.

On Saturday March 28th, 2026 at approximately 9:25 P.M. the Sheriff’s Dept. received a 911 call about a lady trying to start a fight. They were advised this happened at the Tourist Information Center North of Corning on U.S. 67. The caller advised 911 that a lady had tried to start a fight with her and her boyfriend. A deputy went to the rest area, and came in contact with 28yr. old Ashley Brooke Allred of Rector. Allred appeared to be highly intoxicated. The deputy took Allred into custody and transported her to the Clay County Detention Center. After Allred was placed in a cell alone, jailers noticed Allred broke the phone receiver in her cell. The jailers went into the cell and tried to calm her down. A short time later jailers noticed she was trying to get to the light fixture in the ceiling. The jailers went into her cell when she attacked a jailer and deputy. Allred was taken down to the floor where she was able to kick a female jailer in the head and throat. A jailer went and got the restraint chair where Allred was placed until she was not a threat to herself or the jail staff. The jailer that was kicked in the throat, and head was taken to Piggott Hospital. She was checked out and released. Ashley Brooke Allred was booked on the following charges: Public Intoxication, Impairing The Operation Of A Vital Public Facility, Battery 2nd Degree / Injure Police Or Correction Officer, Terroristic Threatening 1st Degree / Threatening Physical Injury, Intentional Injury To / Interference With Government Property, Criminal Mischief – 1st Degree / Property Of Another W/ Value Of $1000.00 Or Less, Disorderly Conduct.

On March 20, 2026, the Shelby County Coroner notified the Clay County Coroner’s Office that 91 year old Joe E Dodd, of Knobel, had passed away. Mr. Dodd had been hospitalized since Sunday, March 15 from injuries he suffered in a domestic abuse incident at his residence. The Clay County Coroner is going to take possession of Mr. Dodd to be sent to the State Crime Lab in Little Rock. The Sheriff’s Department at this time is conferring with the Prosecutor’s Office to amend the charges from First Degree Domestic Battery to First Degree Murder. Mr. Dodd’s son, 71 year old Joe Ray Dodd, remains incarcerated at the Clay County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

On Monday March 16th, 2026 the Sheriff’s Dept. brought 49yr. old Heather Taylor of Corning to Circuit Court in Corning. Ms. Taylor’s attorney requested to speak with her in private. They were in the back room of the courthouse, when her attorney advised her, she was going to get sentenced to the Arkansas Department of Corrections. When her attorney left the room Ms. Taylor went into the back hallway and saw that no deputy was present. She then ran out the back door of the courthouse in her jail uniform, leg irons, and shackles. A lady went up to a deputy, and advised what she had seen. Deputies and Corning P.D. located Ms. Taylor a short time later at 711 Market Street, her father’s house. She was then returned to the courthouse. She was being sentenced for 2 counts of Battery ll on Law Enforcement from when she fought and struck 2 deputies in the courtroom on August 26th, 2025. She had to be carried out of the courtroom when she was sentenced to a year in the county jail for Misdemeanor Theft. She is now facing new charges of 3rd, Degree Felony Escape. District Judge Curtis Hitt set her bond at $500,000.00.
