On Friday June 5th, 2026, at approximately 9:36 A.M. a deputy made a traffic stop on Highway 90 North of Rector. When he came in contact with the driver, he noticed the passenger as 51yr. old Melissa Beraud of Rector. The deputy ran a check on Mrs. Beraud, and learned that she is on Probation with a search waiver on file. The deputy conducted a search of her purse and the vehicle. Mrs. Beraud was taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center. She was booked in on the following charges: Possession of M**h or Co***ne LT 2GM and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026, at approximately 12:01 A.M. a deputy made a traffic stop on County Road 159 just off U.S. 67 North of Corning. When the deputy came in contact with the driver, he recognized him as 43yr. old Alex R. Shelton of Success. Mr. Shelton is on active Probation, with a search waiver on file. A search was conducted of Mr. Shelton and the vehicle. Mr. Shelton was taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked in on the following charges: Possession of SCH I or II not M**h/Co***ne GT 2GM but LT 10GM. Possession of SCH VI LT 4OZ, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Saturday May 16th, 2026 the Clay County Sheriff’s Dept. received a 911 call at approximately 4:04 P.M. of people shot at Baker Sawmill Company in Corning. Deputies and Corning officers responded to Southwest 1st Street in Corning. Officers found 2 people with gun shot wounds in a building at the lumber company. A deputy and Corning officer administered first aid until EMT’s arrived. During this time it was learned that the suspect had fled on foot, heading South through the lumber yard. Deputies and Corning officers apprehended the subject at 4:33 P.M. at residence about a half mile south of where the incident occurred. After the subject was in custody officers learned he had also been shot. Two of the subjects were transported to Jonesboro Hospitals, then transferred to Little Rock and Memphis. Another individual was also taken to a Memphis Hospital. The Arkansas State Police C.I.D. Division has taken over the investigation and will handle any further information.

On Wednesday May 13th, 2026, a Clay County Deputy went to 26 County Road 43 to serve a Felony absconding warrant on 47yr. old Eric Duane Zacek of Corning. When the deputy arrived, he observed 2 people on a dock fishing in what is known as Fry Lake. The deputy recognized one of the individuals as Zacek. The deputy went down toward the individuals and was not seen until he stepped onto the dock. He took Zacek into custody and conducted a search of his person. 2 bags of what tested to be M**h were found in his pocket. He was transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked in on the following charges. Possession of M**h or Co***ne with Purpose to Deliver GT 2gm but LT 10gm and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Saturday May 9th, 2026, at approximately 12:22 P.M. the Sheriff’s Dept. was investigating information about illegal narcotic activity. The Sheriff’s Dept. observed a vehicle, and female driver who they had received information about. The driver pulled into a parking lot at 413 Southeast 1st Street in Corning. A deputy pulled into the parking lot and made contact with the female driver, and male passenger. As the deputy walked up to the vehicle, he noticed 2 clear plastic bags with a white substance sitting on the console of the vehicle. When the deputy had the driver and passenger exit the vehicle, he noticed a large plastic bag in the driver’s seat. Deputies then conducted a search of the vehicle where other narcotics were found as well as paraphernalia. 38yr old Holly Denise Townsend of Corning was transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked in on the following charges. Possession of M**h or Co***ne with Purpose to Deliver GT 10GM but LT 200GM, Possession of Sch III with Purpose to Deliver, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Friday May 8th, 2026, at approximately 8:20P.M. the Sheriff’s Dept. went to 1100 North First Street in Datto to conduct a search. The Occupants were on parole and had Suspended Imposition Search Waiver on file. During the search deputies found a glass plate covered in a white powder that they were told was rat poison. A field test was done on the plate, and it showed positive to be M**h. As deputies were discussing the test, 58yr. old Dennis Dale Williams quickly grabbed the plate, and washed it off in the sink. Deputies continued the search and found numerous other items. Mr. Williams was taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center. He was booked in on the following charges: Possession of SCH I Or II GT 10GM but LT 200GM, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Tampering with Physical Evidence- Obstruct Prosecution.

On Tuesday May 5th, 2026, at approximately 1:08 P.M. the Sheriff’s Dept. went to 122 County Road 159 in Corning to conduct a probation search. When deputies came into contact with 41yr. old Coy D. Townsend, they advised him of the reason for their presence. When deputies entered the camping trailer, they came in contact with 28yr old Michelle L. Turner of Walnut Ridge. Deputies learned that the female had been staying at the camper. The deputies conducted a search of the trailer and found numerous drug related items. Both subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Detention Center. They were booked in on the following charges: Possession of M**h or Co***ne with Intent to Deliver GT 2gm but LT 10gm, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of SCH III With Purpose to Deliver, and Possession of SCH I or II GT 2gm but LT 10gm.
