A low chance of showers and thunderstorms will persist over the next few days, primarily south of the Mountain Parkway as a frontal boundary wavers near the Kentucky-Tennessee border. High pressure then moves in mid-week, bringing fair and dry weather to most areas on Tuesday and all of Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday and Thursday.

05/31/2026

Today
Partly sunny, with a high near 83. South southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning.
Tonight
A 20 percent chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. Calm wind.

A wavering frontal boundary pushes south into the Tennessee Valley tonight, but lifts back north into Southern tomorrow evening. This yields increasing shower and thunderstorm chances from Sunday night into Monday. The boundary finally clears the area on Monday night, when precipitation chances will taper off to overnight valley fog. A cooler and drier airmass then settles into the region through midweek.

While temperatures will be seasonably warm across all of Eastern this weekend, the rain chances are split! The further south of the Mountain Parkway you go, the closer you are to a stalled boundary. This leads to greater shower/storm chances in southern locales. Drier conditions are generally expected in our northern counties, but if that boundary lifts far enough north on Monday, there could be some isolated to scattered activity there too.

Surface high pressure will keep the northeast parts of the area dry into the weekend, but a wave approaching from the south will bring increasing chances for showers and storms across the Cumberland Basin starting late this afternoon or early this evening and lingering through Sunday.
