🚨 Pike County Schools Safety PSA 🚨
Pike County Sheriff's Office-KY

PLEASE SHARE

Pike County Schools will return to session on Thursday morning, August 6, 2026. As buses, parents, and teenage drivers get back on the road, we’re asking everyone in our community to slow down, stay alert, and help keep our students safe.

🚍 New Kentucky School Bus Law
A new statewide bus‑safety law is now in effect.
Drivers must stop for a school bus with its stop arm out and red lights flashing on nearly every roadway, including most four‑lane roads.
Only roads with a physical barrier or unpaved median separating traffic allow the opposite direction to continue moving.

If you’re unsure whether a roadway qualifies, play it safe and stop.

đźš— Heavier Traffic Expected
Not all students ride the bus. Morning and afternoon traffic will be heavier with:

Parents dropping off and picking up students

Teen drivers traveling to and from school

Increased congestion around school zones and intersections

⏰ Plan Ahead & Drive Considerately
Leave early to avoid rushing

Stay patient in school‑zone congestion

Watch for students crossing roads, walking to bus stops, or exiting vehicles

Be understanding — everyone is trying to get students to school safely

Your caution protects our kids.
Let’s make the first day — and every day — a safe one for Pike County students.

With school starting soon, everyone needs to be aware of Kentucky’s updated school bus safety law. These changes are designed to better protect children as they load and unload from buses.

If you’re unsure about when the law applies or have any questions, please reach out to a local Deputy, law enforcement officer, or your school bus driver. Keeping our students safe is everyone’s responsibility.
