Today the Pilot K**b Fire Department remembers all the lives lost 9/11.

We honor their courage, their sacrifice, and their legacy.

On 05/21/26, Pilot K**b Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Nelson Street. Engine 1 arrived on scene within three minutes of dispatch and encountered a single-story commercial occupancy with smoke visible from the structure.
Fire crews immediately initiated fire suppression operations and conducted a coordinated attack to contain the incident. Through the dedication of responding personnel and the support of our mutual aid partners, Pilot K**b Fire Department assembled a full ISO credit response within ten minutes of dispatch, ensuring adequate staffing and resources were available to safely and effectively manage the incident.
Firefighters worked diligently to bring the fire under control, perform overhaul operations, and protect surrounding property. Units remained on scene for approximately two hours before returning to service.
I would like to personally thank the members of Pinnacle Fire Department, Westfield Fire Department, and Double Creek Fire Department for their rapid response, professionalism, and commitment to serving our communities. Incidents such as this demonstrate the importance of strong mutual aid partnerships and the value of a well-trained regional fire service.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Surry County Fire Marshal’s Office. No further information regarding the origin or cause of the fire will be released until the investigation has been completed.
The men and women of Pilot K**b Fire Department remain committed to providing professional emergency services and protecting the lives and property of those we serve. Yesterday's response is a testament to the dedication of our volunteers and the support we receive from our neighboring departments and community.

Strong work by everyone involved, we thank you all for the assistance!

What we have here are four Chiefs from four different agencies who come together with one common goal when the pager goes off, and that is serving our community!🚨

Pilot Mountain Rescue and EMS, Mount Airy Rescue Squad, Bannertown Volunteer Fire Department, and Pilot K**b Vol. Fire Department work side by side to make sure our citizens receive the best care and response possible! 🚑🚒

District lines do not divide us. They unite us. What truly makes this work is the relationships behind the scenes. These are not just professional partnerships but real friendships built on trust, respect, and a shared commitment to the communities we serve. 🤝💙

Strong administrative friendships help grow and strengthen every aspect of public safety. When leaders communicate, support one another, and work together, it directly impacts how effectively we get the job done 💪

And yes, if we look a little red faced in the picture, the emergency lights were very bright and we were definitely easy to spot on the highway! 😄🚨

Yesterday your Pilot K**b Firemen had our annual hazmat training where we practiced building dams using underflows and overflows. We give our sincerest thanks to the Surry County Hazmat Team for allowing us to utilize HM1.
