As the MLLT Heritage Project enters its second year, we reflect on the tremendous display of community support and feedback that has been received. Currently the project is in phase 2 and is working on creating panel texts for the interpretive signage.

We are also excited to share some of the amazing work that is being done at the Michigan History Center. Though it is not finalized, the idea is that this image will serve as a header on every panel. As a whole, it was created using imagery that represents the natural landscapes and aspects of cultural heritage from the communities that the trail passes through. Feel free to share, like, or comment!

On May 10th we will be holding our first Trail History Committee meeting at the Hamburg Library, 12-2pm. The purpose of the History Committee meetings is to review the stories we will be interpreting along the trail while we move forward in this project. For those who didn’t signup at our Stockbridge meeting and would like to be part of the committee, send me a message and I can give you more information!

We have finally found a picture of what was once the town of Anderson! This photo, that is believed to be taken somewhere in the 1920s, was brought to our attention by Rod Munsell in Gregory. This heritage project relies on the support and information of the community. So if anyone has historical information, photos, or documents that they would like to share, you can help us in discovering the path to our past.

Maiden Voyage of the "S.S. Showboat." 7-11-1942

This warm weather has us counting down the days of summer! Taken on Patterson Lake in Pinckney, boys at the University of Michigan's "Fresh Air" Camp get ready for a day on the water. The camp was created in 1923, where it originally operated as a summer recreation program for underprivileged urban boys. For more information about the camps history, check out an article link in the comments!

The heritage of a community can take shape in many forms, whether its people, events, industry, buildings, and landscapes. What is something that makes your community special?
