At this evening’s council meeting, Mayor Cuneo read a proclamation honoring Danny Maresca, Jakob Bodtmann, and Noel Acevedo for their heroic actions on May 5 at a house fire on Station Avenue. These three young men were leaving the Station Avenue beach shortly before midnight when they noticed smoke coming from an occupied house on the 100 block. The men forcibly opened the front door and evacuated the occupants prior to our arrival.

If not for the quick actions of these three young men, this fire could have had tragic consequences. Fine job, gentlemen!

Station 38 extends our sincerest gratitude to the men and women of our United States Armed Forces who signed that blank check payable up to and including their own lives so that we may continue to live free. Your sacrifice will be remembered for all eternity.

Some pics from our 2nd Annual Golf Outing yesterday. Thankfully, the weather cooperated (to a point) and we got it done before things got soggier.

To our golfers: We hope you had a good time and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon. We’re already planning next year’s event, so stay tuned. To our friends in the pictures, we apologize in advance if you told your significant others that you were at work or in you took a sick day.

To our members who helped with the event: Thank you for stepping up to the plate. This event doesn’t happen without your hard work, and it was noticed.

To our hosts: Thank you SO much to Cedar Creek Golf Course for working with us and being so accomodating. And thanks to Birdie’s Bar and Grill for the refreshments and delicious dinner. You are all awesome and we greatly appreciate everything you did for us.

And to our sponsors: Without you, we can’t pull this off. Thank you so very much for being so willing to sponsor a hole, tee, or donating prizes to make this event a great fun afternoon.

Please remember you help us by visiting our sponsors and taking advantage of their services.

Looking for something to do this Friday? How about a round of golf at Cedar Creek Golf Course in Bayville?

So maybe it’s not the PGA or the club championship. We still have a great time with awards, prizes, pop-up challenges, and dinner at the end.

$100 per golfer or $375 for a foursome, with a shotgun start at 1pm (no, not a real shotgun. It scares the squirrels).

Scan the QR code, or print the registration form and get it to us by Thursday. Tell a friend. Bring a friend. Or 3. Unleash your inner Rory McIlroy. LET’S GOOOO!!

In the next week or so, you should expect to see our annual fundraising letter in your mailbox.

Let’s be clear. Our members don’t want to be walking around with our hands out all the time looking for money. It gets old very, very quickly. The fact is that we rely 100% on donations for EVERYTHING, from paying for utilities at the firehouse (electric and gas) to maintenance of vehicles, to mandatory testing of equipment (hose, pumps, SCBA), to repairs, and replacement of broken or outdated equipment. Without your donations, we simply cannot afford to exist.

We have sold off as many of our assets as we could to renovate a 100 year old firehouse to keep it safe and functional, but those funds have dried up and are not coming back. We took an oath to protect 100% of this community, yet we receive financial support from only about 30-33% of the population.

Without community support, our days are numbered. We understand that times are tough, we all feel that too. All we ask is that when that fund drive letter arrives, please consider giving whatever you can. The days of holding a bake sale to buy equipment are long gone and we need each and every one on you to contribute what you can to keep your fire company operating.

Remember, Pine Beach Vol. Fire Company will never solicit donations by phone and this fund drive is one of our primary sources of income.
