Effective immediately, the burn ban for Jefferson County has been lifted. Citizens are asked to be extremely cautious when burning. Please practice the following safety measures. Attend the fire at all times. Do not burn in high winds and keep a water source close by to control the fire.

...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of northern Cleveland,
southeastern Grant, northeastern Dallas, southwestern Jefferson and
west central Lincoln Counties through 1045 AM CDT..

At 1020 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Lamont, or 12 miles northwest of Rison, moving east at 45 mph.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
possible.

As of 1 PM April 21, 2026 we are still under a burn ban.

🚫 Burn Ban Still in Effect – Jefferson County 🚫

Even with rain in the forecast, the burn ban remains in place. A little rain in one area doesn’t mean the whole county is getting it, and conditions are still dry.

We will need significant, widespread rainfall before the burn ban can be lifted. Right now, fire danger remains moderate due to ongoing drought conditions.

🔥 Please follow the burn ban ordinance—no outdoor burning.
This helps keep everyone safe and prevents unnecessary wildfires.

🔥 Burn Ban Still in Effect 🔥

Even though we received some much-needed rain today, it is NOT enough to improve fire conditions. With the ongoing drought, the moisture will dry up quickly—especially with winds expected over the next few days. Another long dry stretch is also in the forecast.

🚫 The county-wide burn ban remains in place. That means NO burning anywhere in the county , even if it’s raining at your location. Other areas may not be receiving rain, and conditions remain dangerous.

🚫 No Outdoor Burning Today Due to elevated fire danger conditions — sustained winds of 10–15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph and low humidity near or below 30% — outdoor burning is strongly discouraged .

Even something as small as burning cardboard can quickly get out of control and lead to large wildfires.

There is no burn ban currently in effect for Jefferson County , but residents are urged to refrain from any burning until we receive significant rainfall. There is no rain in the forecast for the next 7 days .
