This afternoon, representatives from the Orange County Health Department met with leaders from all school districts in Orange County to announce that isolation periods for those testing positive and quarantine periods for those identified as close contacts will be shortened to five (5) days. Those who are fully vaccinated are eligible to come to school if they are asymptomatic. One change, however, is that fully vaccinated individuals who are eligible for the booster, but haven’t received it yet, cannot participate in after-school activities (including clubs and athletics) during that five-day period.
Unvaccinated close contacts will have the opportunity to participate in the district’s Test to Stay protocol. This will allow asymptomatic staff and students to attend school if they test negative on self-administered at-home tests provided by the district. They cannot participate in after school activities, including clubs and athletics. Staff and students must opt in to this protocol. Please expect more information regarding how to opt in on Thursday, Jan. 13. We anticipate beginning this protocol on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
With this said, please know staff and students who have finished Days 0 – Day 5 of a current quarantine may now return on Day 6.
Our layered mitigation protocol will be updated Wednesday.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these changes together.
