Today I drove along the ongoing sidewalk construction area on Gun Club Road in Village Acres. I stopped and paced off the construction area in 3 different spots, both finished and unfinished, and in all these 3 situations the actual sidewalk area extended 6 paces, about 18-19 feet, from the edge of the road……fully using the existing right-of-way on that side of the road and in many cases consuming almost half of what used to be the property owners landscaped front lawns.

I spoke separately to two workers, one doing survey work and another actually supervising the construction activity. They both mentioned that they didn’t know of any area where the impact was less than 12 feet from the edge of the road and in most cases with which they were familiar the project was using the full 19 feet extending from the centerline of the roadway.

I’m guessing most, if not all, of the persons who support this project do not know of its actual footprint and/or cost.
