Hometown Hero

Honoring Lt. James R. Wicker — a true example of courage, service, and dedication to his community and country. In July 1944, during World War II, his plane went down near the small village of Hoorn, Holland. His bravery and sacrifice continue to inspire generations.

The Letters Left Behind preserves his legacy through a remarkable World War II-era binder housed in the Tufts Archives, containing 327 handwritten letters — words that still whisper love from a bygone era. These letters offer a deeply personal glimpse into the life, heart, and story of Lt. James R. Wicker, ensuring he will never be forgotten.

Library Lookout 📚👀 | April Update

Progress is underway as we prepare for construction of Pinehurst’s new library.

Contractors continue site readiness work, including grading and overall site preparation. Tree protection zones have been established to help preserve surrounding natural areas during construction. A temporary construction office is also now in place, marking another step toward vertical construction.

We’re laying the groundwork—literally—and look forward to sharing more as this exciting project continues to take shape.
